~ (Freddy makes fun of the feeling of love). |
Frederick "Freddy" Krueger is the main antagonist and the narrator of the horror anthology TV series Freddy's Nightmares: A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Series. Like his cinematographic counterpart, he is a serial child killer who, released on a legal technicality after being arrested, was executed by lynching, returning from the world of the dead transformed into a demonic being capable of traveling into the dreams of his victims and killing them there. Unlike his original counterpart, he is not the main antagonist but rather the host of all the episodes in the series.
He was portrayed by Robert Englund, who also played his original counterpart, one of the 100 Maniacs of the Hathaway House in the fifth episode of the film series and the Entity in the spin-off film of the saga Wes Craven's New Nightmare, voiced the Riddler in The Batman, Bill Gartley in The Mangler, the title character in the 1989 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, Lucifer in Married with Children, and Anti-Pops in Regular Show.
Background[]
This version of Freddy is nearly identical, in appearance and characterization, to the Freddy Krueger of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. In addition, like the original Freddy Krueger, he murdered younger than teenage children during his lifetime. However, the key difference is that it is stated that he had killed at least one teenager (a 14-year old boy) before his death.
In the film series, it seems to be left ambiguous as to whether or not any of his pre-death victims were teenagers. Moreover, this Freddy Krueger graduated from Springwood High School in 1970, which was two years after the Freddy Krueger of the film series was burned to death.
It is straight out stated in the episode "It's My Party and You'll Die If I Want You To" that he molested at least some of his pre-death victims, which makes this version of Freddy a pedophile/molester, much like his 2010 rebooted version, and on how Freddy Krueger was originally envisioned by Wes Craven. Freddy had a pre-trial hearing after he was arrested, but was released due to the arresting officer Lt. Tim Blocker not reading to him his Miranda rights without ever going to trial. Freddy was later burned to death by the latter, who regretted on not having killed him in the first place.
The alternate Freddy Krueger obviously knew that he would continue on in the Dream World after his physical death, which is evident when he stated that he'll be back. While most of the adults he kills were either involved with his death or were helping the teenage characters work against him in the film series, Krueger kills many adults who apparently had nothing to do with his death in the Freddy's Nightmares series.
As stated in the aforementioned episode, he has been systematically killing his former schoolmates from Springwood High School in their dreams. By this time, they were well past their teenage-hood.
Biography[]
Pre-death[]
Teenage[]
He went to Springwood High School, from which he graduated in 1970. He was considered quiet and unpopular in school, but he did have one friend, the meek Howard Nehamkin. This was two years after the Freddy Krueger of the film series was burned to death.
Springwood Slasher[]
He, as well as attempted to, murder both younger than teenage children and teenagers and he killed at least one adult (Lou, a police officer). It is straight out stated in the aforementioned episode that he molested at least some of his victims. Moreover, during his killing spree, he used an ice cream van to lure his victims close enough so that he could kidnap and then kill them.
Arrest and death[]
Krueger was arrested by Lt. Blocker and was brought to court to be testified. However, Freddy was unexpectedly released, since the judge noted that Blocker didn't read to him his Miranda rights. Furious that Freddy was let go and believing that they had been denied justice, a group of vengeful parents along with the district attorney, who testified against Krueger, decided to take matters into their own hands. Tracking Freddy down to the old boiler room, they attempted to kill him but were stopped by Blocker, who also arrived. When Krueger began to mock them, he was immediately doused with gasoline by Blocker and then set on fire. As he burns to death Freddy declares that he'll return and that he is free.
Becoming a dream demon[]
Shortly after his death, Freddy Krueger was turned into a dream demon through unknown means, and he became a burnt apparition of himself, with his face and head being completely covered in scars.
Post-death[]
He kills many of his former Springwood High School schoolmates when they are well past teenage. Freddy even went as far as to kill more adults than he was ever depicted as killing in the film series.
