Question me again, Sorter, and we will have a falling out.
~ Paul threatening to kill Sorter if he objects to his torture methods.

French Paul, also simply known as Paul, is the secondary antagonist of the 2005 psychological crime thriller film Revolver. He is Dorothy Macha's right-hand man and enforcer.

He was portrayed by Terence Maynard, who also portrayed Tony Stewart in Coronation Street.

Biography[]

At the beginning of the film, French Paul stands in front of a casino with his boss, Dorothy Macha. Macha asks Paul about a shareholder whom Paul has recently killed for Macha. The whole purpose of the scene is introducing Paul as Macha's right hand man. As soon as Jake, his brother Billy and the others enter the casino. Macha, who is now seated at a casino table, orders Paul to send Jake up but Paul expresses some concern because Jake Green has become a very good gambler. When Green wins the game and leaves Macha's casino. Macha and Paul talks about Green after he left the building. Macha actually seems concerned because Green spent seven years in prison and that seven years doesn't taste nice. Macha, afraid that Green might cause more problems, orders Paul to send his best hit-man, Sorter, to assassinate Jake and his colleagues.

Paul returns to tell Macha that no one sees Gold and he has to talk to one of his representatives, Lily Walker. Macha wants to do some work for Gold and Walker reminds him of the fact that Gold doesn't give second chances. It's quite obvious that Macha is nervous about the job which is about a drug deal he has to organize for Gold and Mr. Gold is one of the biggest players in the business. "I won't let you down", he tells Walker.

Green and his crew takes part in a heist. They steal the safe where the stash of Mr. Gold's cocaine is being kept, from Macha. Macha is understandably furious and afraid, Paul tells him they can only get more cocaine from Lord John, an Asian organized crime leader. Macha is very unhappy, but has no choice. John is willing to deal, at a substantially higher price than what they got the cocaine from Gold at. Macha tells Paul to buy the cocaine from them but once again, Green and the crew also steal this consignment, from Lord John, as well as the money Macha intended to use to pay for the drugs. Macha is now convinced John stiffed him, and John thinks Macha stole it. Paul captures one of Lord John's men and tortures the man, asking him where the cocaine is.

After numerous excruciating tortures that Paul gave to his victims. He returns to Macha and shows him the daily newspapers, most of which recount Macha's "donations" to various charities. Macha's internal voice in his head, tells him to take the credit, basking in how good it is. Paul tells Macha they still have a problem. Macha says he thinks otherwise, recounting his actions in his bedroom the previous night. However, Paul is certain that Green was behind the cocaine theft and was playing mind games. But when Paul mentions Mr. Gold, Macha becomes intensely fearful. Macha then orders Paul to take Sorter and go with an army of henchmen and interrogate Billy, Jake's brother on his whereabouts.

Jake's brother, suspecting something bad is about to happen, tells his daughter to hide in the cupboards. Just after she does so, Paul and his men filter in and they start torturing Jake's brother to get information on his whereabouts, driving a nail through his hand. Sorter stands behind the table, clearly unhappy with this entire situation. The torture is continuing, with Sorter getting even more agitated, until he tells Paul "That's enough". Paul replies "Question me again Sorter, and we will have a falling out." They then hear Jake's niece, crying from her hiding place in the cupboards. We then get the scene described to us from a past perspective. Paul is using the girl to get to Jake’s brother, threatening to torture her or implying he will.

In the alternate version of the film, Paul is seen with Macha in the back seat of a car. Macha orders Paul to bury the shareholder deep and Paul informs him that Jake is free from prison. Paul gets an order from Macha to have someone keep an eye on Jake. In the same version of the film, we get a glimpse of Paul, who captures and tortures the others to find out where they hid the bags of cocaine.
