Did you see? What they did to my ancestors? The whole clan, buried alive. Sick. Maddened. Husks of themselves. Have you heard their moans? They're hardly humans anymore. They think we worship the Three Fingers? That we called the maddening sickness upon them? Well if that's what they expect from us, then that's what they shall get from us!
~ Merchant Kalé's unused dialogue.
O Three Fingers, throw wide the door. Please, bestow unto me the yellow flame of chaos. A frenzied flame to melt away the curses, suffering and despair. And the Order, entire. May chaos take the world.
~ Merchant Kalé's unused dialogue.

The Frenzied Flame is a major antagonist in the 2022 game Elden Ring. It is a chaotic Outer God that desires the unleashing of chaos upon the world to destroy all that the Greater Will and its Golden Order has created.

Biography[]

The Frenzied Flame's Origin[]

Much of the Frenzied Flame's origin remains in mystery, but it is believed that they were once a whole being with the other Outer Gods, before being separated entirely. Acting as a twisted mirror of the Greater Will, the Frenzied Flame utilizes the entity known as the Three Fingers as their corporal agent deep under the sewers of Leyndell.

The Summoning of the Frenzied Flame[]

Long before the events of Elden Ring, there once was a great clan known as the Great Caravan, but after being accused of heretical beliefs, their entire clan was rounded up and buried alive in the Cathedral of the Forsaken deep under the capital of Leyndell. There, they chanted a curse of despair and summoned the Frenzied Flame to seek vengeance upon the Greater Will. Later on, a man named Shabriri had his eyes gouged out as punishment for the crime of slander, and became a host for the Flame. Through unknown means, Shabriri was granted the ability to live on after death by the Frenzied Flame, dwelling within the body of the Bloody Finger Hunter Yura to pursue a new Lord of Frenzied Flame.

Lord of the Frenzied Flame[]

At an unknown point in history, a Tarnished named Vyke came extremely close to becoming the next Elden Lord. However, upon learning that his Fingerprint Maiden had to be sacrificed to achieve this goal, Vyke began searching for a way to spare her life. Vyke was seduced by the power of the Frenzied Flame, and the safety of his Maiden that it promised. Taking the Flame into himself, Vyke was set on the path to become a Lord of the Frenzied Flame; however, for reasons unknown, Vyke cast away this power by plucking his own eye out, removing the Frenzied Flame's influence, and was sealed inside of an Evergaol.

Should the Tarnished interact with the Three Fingers, the Three Fingers will imbed itself into Tarnished, granting them the Flame of Frenzy. Once Tarnished defeats the Elden Beast, the Tarnished becomes the Lord of Frenzied Flame. The Outer God is released from its bonds and begins to burn the Lands Between. Melina then vows to bring the new Lord of The Frenzied Flame their destined death.

Abilities[]

While little is known of the Flame's true nature, it is known that it dwells within the eyes of its followers, turning them a bright yellow before replacing them entirely with its flames and granting them the power to use the Flame as a weapon. This Flame appears to be able to spread like a virus, as its influence can be forced upon others through magic or by consuming the plucked eyes of Frenzied Flame followers.

The Flame is shown to be extremely powerful if given the opportunity, being able to completely obliterate the Erdtree and consume the Lands Between immediately upon the rising of the Lord of Frenzied Flame.

Trivia[]

  • The Frenzied Flame appears to be inspired by blindness-causing parasites, as its influence manifests in the eyes and many of its followers are blind.
    • Furthermore, the follower of the Frenzied Flame known as Shabriri is named after a demon in Hebrew folklore that dwells in the water and causes blindness.
