Frenzy often works with Soundwave, along with other cassette Decepticons Ravage, Laserbeak, Ratbat, and Buzzsaw. Because of his coloration on the original cartoon, he is sometimes misidentified as Rumble. The toy is colored blue and indigo, but his cartoon model is red, black, and gold. His toy-accurate color scheme in the Marvel Comics series remained intact, and following media such as Dreamwave and IDW's comics followed the toy's colors as well.
Animated series[]
The animated series accidentally swapped the color schemes for Rumble and Frenzy - Rumble was now colored as Frenzy and vice-versa. In the animated series, Frenzy was not as prominent a character as Rumble, first appearing in the episode "Countdown To Extinction" and made few appearances after that, usually appearing alongside Rumble. He did appear in the movie being punched out the city but strangely appeared on Astrotrain.
Comics[]
Frenzy was more prominent in the Marvel comic series, being among the original Decepticon lineup in the initial miniseries. He took part in early missions such as a raid on a power plant to gain material for constructing their base. In Issue #3, he took down Brawn after the latter had defeated Rumble, only to be himself taken out of action by the Autobots' new ally Spider-Man. In the UK-exclusive story "The Enemy Within", he was convinced by Ravage that the Autobots were responsible for an ambush on Starscream and took part in the attack on the Ark in the following story, battling Gears.
He was brought back online once Shockwave took over as Decepticon leader and again took part in operations such as taking over the Blackrock Aerospace Facility. He appeared prominently in Issue #9, where he complained to Shockwave about the lack of action. After initially threatening to set Buzzsaw on him, Shockwave agreed to him and Starscream launching a raid on G.B. Blackrock's unveiling of an anti-robot cannon. A two-pronged attack from Autobots Jazz and Wheeljack and the anti-robot vigilante Circuit Breaker saw them driven off.
In "Robot Buster", Frenzy was sent by Shockwave to perform a salvage operation at the Decepticons' old fortress. He ended up battling Buster Witwicky, using a new Autobot-built battle suit, with Buster defeating him by luck after accidentally reflecting Frenzy's sonic burst back at him. In US Issue #19, he and most of the other original Decepticons accompanied Megatron in an attack on the Ark which saw almost their entire party taken out by Omega Supreme.
In the UK comics, Frenzy was revived fairly quickly in "Target: 2006". He and Thundercracker recovered from stasis and joined Shockwave at the Decepticons' coal mine base only to be shunted into limbo by the arrival of Hot Rod, Kup and Blurr from the future. The later "Distant Thunder" revealed that, once there, they encountered the similarly displaced Optimus Prime, Prowl and Ratchet, who were already involved in a conflict between the peaceful Carnis and the forces of the warlike Zenag. The three Decepticons made a deal with Zenag to destroy the Autobots in return for a war out but Optimus Prime convinced them the whole thing was an illusion generated by parasites that fed on violence. After being freed from limbo, Frenzy made one final appearance in "Resurrection", witnessing Megatron's return from Cybertron.
Frenzy continued to be treated as offline in the US storyline, although Issue #39 mistakenly depicted him among the Decepticons on Ratbat's island base. He was among the inert Decepticons retrieved by the Constructicons in Issue #41 but was never shown back online.
