Freya AKA Kaname Kugatachi was one of the Eight Fists of Ragnarök holding the position of the third fist and one of the Three of Cards.
Biography[]
Freya trained in the Bo staff at her grandfather's dojo, developing great skill as a martial artist. Believing woman are weaker than men without a weapon, Freya became a street fighter to prove herself. During this time, she met Odin and agreed to join his organization Ragnarök in hopes of meeting and learning from Odin's Master Ogata Isshinsai. She, Odin, and Bersker became the first members of Ragnarök becoming a group known as the Three of Cards.
Freya formed her own team of weapon wielding women called the Valkyries, one of which was the Eight Fist to be, Kisara Nanjō. Despite Kisara growing close to Freya, the former left the Valkyries out of refusal to fight with a weapon and struck out to become stronger without aid.
After the defeats of Thor, Hermit, Siegfried, Kisara, and Loki, the former three of the Eight Fists which quit Ragnarök, Freya becomes interest in learning how the Shinpaku Alliance is able to accomplish their continued victories. Not long after, she gets a report from the Valkyries saying that Kisara has been spotted associating with Kenichi and Miu and she sends them to confirm whether or not Kisara has betrayed Ragnarök. The Valkyries attack Kisara, Kenichi, and Miu, who are actually caring for a stray kitten, and injure the former because she was protecting the kitten, but they are defeated in a humiliating fashion by Shigure. Afterward Kisara personally confronts Freya to announce her resignation from Ragnarök. Freya lets Kisara leave unopposed so she may fight her once she recovers.
When Ragnarök launches an attack to destroy the Shinpaku Alliance, Freya and the Valkyries go after Kisara and Miu. Kisara battles Freya while Miu defeats the Valkyrie. Freya holds the advantage by using her Bo staff to keep Kisara at bay and attack, but Kisara ultimately wins by borrowing one of Miu's moves to get a clear shot and breaks Freya's staff with a double drop kick. Freya concedes defeat because wielding her staff while its broken and has splintered edges would be too dangerous and acknowledges Kisara's growth. Due to the fighter between her and Kisara, Freya doesn't participate in the final battle between Ragnarök and the Shinpaku Alliance. When Ragnarök is defeated and disbanded, Freya and the Valkyries become independent until they later join the Shinpaku Alliance.
Personality[]
Freya is calm and stoic, never showing much emotion. She is a firm believer in the idea that women need weapons to compete with men in martial arts and has all who serve under her train with weapons. One of the more honorable members of Ragnarök, Freya follows the ideal of non-killing, not fighting those who are already injured and refusing to fight when it risks turning lethal.
Abilities[]
- Weapons expert: Freya is an expert in armed combat, particularly the Bo staff. Her signature staff is customized to be capable of splitting in two and recombing depending on the situation. Her expertise allows her to train the entire Valkyries in weapons and earn her the third highest place in Ragnarök.
