Friedhelm Winter is one of the three main protagonists of the 2013 Miniseries Generation War.
He was portrayed by Tom Schilling.
Biography[]
In Episode 1 of Generation War, Friedhelm and his brother Wilhelm, join the Wehrmacht and are deployed to the Eastern front of World War II, but upon arrival on the Eastern front, Friedhelm is belittled by his squad for being presumed as a coward. Eager to prove himself, Friedhelm begins executing prisoners of war and civilians. While he is shot by his fellow soldiers when they mistake him for a Russian (when he had stolen a Russian uniform to escape from aforementioned telegraph station upon its recapture by the Red Army), Charlotte manages to save Friedhelm from his injuries and Friedhelm tells Charlotte that Wilhelm perished in a Panzerfaust attack before being sent back to Berlin. Later assigned by SS Officer Major Hiemer against European Partisans, Friedhelm continues his reign of terror, eventually shooting Major Hiemer for trying to execute his jewish friend 'Viktor'. Friedhelm, by the end of the series, Is pinned by Soviet soldiers, and decides to sacrifice himself in order to encourage the children and elderly soldiers to surrender so they may survive the war.
