The Frost Vark is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Brenda Holland) of the Apple+ television prequel series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the second television series of the MonsterVerse franchise.
It is a highly-aggressive mammalian Titan with the ability to rapidly decrease the temperature of things and freeze them via inhalation. It dwells in the remote high mountains of western Alaska, somewhere between Nome and Point Barrow.
Biography[]
Not much is known about the Frost Vark, though it was an aggressive, ruthless and cunning subterranean mammalian Titan with ice-based powers that prowls around Alaska, killing anyone or anything it comes across. In 2015, the creature attacked Lee Shaw's group as they search for Hiroshi Randa. Du-Ho, the group's pilot, attempts to fight off the Frost Vark with his plane, but the Titan immediately disables the aircraft with its claws before freezing Du-Ho to death by draining the surrounding temperature. The Frost Vark then stomps on the wreckage before turning its attention towards Shaw, Cate Randa, Kentaro Randa and May Olowe-Hewitt. Just as it closes in on Kentaro, the latter shoots a flare gun that temporarily distracts the Frost Vark before resuming its focus on Lee's group. The Frost Vark is unable to locate the humans after they take cover inside a glacial tunnel, and wanders off in frustration.
Later that night, the Titan senses a campfire that Lee's group had created and proceeds to burrow underneath it and break through the ground before devouring all of the flames. This gives Lee the idea to distract the creature with Du-Ho's frozen corpse and ignites aviation fuel from Du-Ho's plane so that he, Cate, and May can escape to an approaching Monarch helicopter. The Frost Vark feasts on the flames before pursuing the helicopter, only to give up when the aircraft is far above its reach.
A few days after escaping the Frost Vark, Lee returned to the area to close up the nearby Hollow Earth entrance by setting off explosives around it. These explosives attracts the Frost Vark's attention, leading to it attempting to attack a low flying helicopter until it got caught in one of the explosives. The hole quickly began to close and began sucking in everything nearby, including the Frost Vark, until it exploded.
Personality[]
The Frost Vark demonstrates a pronounced and indiscriminate hostility towards anything it encounters, engaging in unprovoked aggression upon detecting the presence of objects or living organisms above the snow-laden terrain from its subterranean position beneath the permafrost. The beast will hunt and feed on anything that emits thermal energy in its frigid environment. However, this behavior means that it can become easily distracted by fire while pursuing smaller prey.
Appearance[]
The Frost Vark is a large mammalian Titan whose muscular body is similar to that of quadrupedal carnivores such as canines, but with a long tail and large razor-sharp claws on each of its five toes. Most of its body is covered in dark blue overlapping plates resembling that of a pangolin with some missing from its muscular arms and underbelly. Several scars can be seen across the front of its long snout, implying that the creature has been in fights in the past. Its eyes are milky white and its face is covered in small, bristly hairs. Several tendrils surround the front of its upper and bottom jaws, resembling the nasal appendages of a star-nosed mole while the tips of each of these tendrils glow blue. The Frost Vark's mouth is adorned with large, jagged razor-sharp teeth, a noticeably-longer fang extending from either side of its upper jaw.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Mammalian Titan Physiology: As a mammalian Titan, the Frost Vark is incredibly powerful, possessing several physical and supernatural attributes.
- Immense Strength: To be added
- Immense Speed: To be added
- Immense Durability: To be added
- Immense Agility: To be added
- Immense Stamina: To be added
- Immense Reflexes: To be added
- Immense Endurance: To be added
- Enhanced Senses: To be added
- Heat Absorption: The Frost Vark possesses a unique physiological ability to rapidly draw in large volumes of heat through its oral cavity. This action facilitates a rapid decrease in the ambient temperature of its surroundings, resulting in a substantial reduction in thermal energy as it absorbs the heat that it metabolizes. The consequential temperature drop is of such magnitude that it induces the solidification of both inorganic and organic materials within a matter of seconds.
- Thermolocation: The Frost Vark is guided by thermolocation, targeting the greatest heat source it detects. This can be briefly exploited, as Kentaro Randa and Shaw were able to distract it with a flare and gasoline fire, respectively.
Abilities[]
- Genius-level Intellect/Master Tactician: To be added
- Burrowing Skills: The Frost Vark, due to being a subterranean creature, is able to quickly burrow through icy terrain. From its burrows, the creature is capable of launching itself into the air, barely missing the helicopter rescuing Lee Shaw, Cate Randa, and May Olowe-Hewitt as it was taking off.
- Armored Skin: The Frost Vark is extremely harder and more resistant to conventional forms of physical injury as its skin is covered over with sharp, angular, dermal armor plates that jut outwards, allowing the creature to withstand conventional weaponry.
- Sensory Tendrils: The Frost Vark possesses at least a dozen specialized sensory tendrils, which encircle its snout. These tendrils remain in perpetual motion as the creature actively investigates its surroundings. Notably, these sensory tendrils exhibit a distinctive bluish hue at their tips, emanating from bioluminescent globules.
- Sharp Teeth: The Frost Vark has razor-sharp teeth which it could use to bite and tear.
- Sharp Claws: The Frost Vark has razor-sharp mole-like claws which allows it to rend through most materials, enabling it to shred planes apart with ease.

Trivia[]
- VFX supervisor Sean Konrad has cited the Frost Vark as his favorite Titan of the show.
- Although an exact height for the Frost Vark has yet to be revealed, according to Tor.com, it is as large as two double-decker buses.
