The Fygul Cestemus are a cult in the Soulcalibur series, known for their worship of Ares, the god of war also known as Palgaea. They are responsible for the creation of Astaroth, Lizardman and its many incarnations, and Ashlotte. The cult is lead by their high priest Kunpeatku and he is responsible for creating Astaroth and giving it the task of finding Soul Edge. Their main goal is to obtain Soul Edge on behalf of Ares.
Kunpeatku[]
Kunpeatku is the leader of Fygul Cestemus and the cult's high priest. He was the one that created Astaroth at the request of Ares, who ordered the cult to find Soul Edge for him. However, Kunpeatku wanted the Soul Edge for himself, as he wished to be worshipped as a god, creating Astaroth as a way of proving it. Despite this he lost control over the creature as Ker, the agent of death, was inside the monster. This lead to the destruction of his shrine, leaving him the only survivor. He was later found by Maxi, a pirate who had developed a hatred for Astaroth, as he was responsible for killing his brother and his crew. Besides Astaroth, he experimented on Aeon Calcos and created an army of lizardmen to serve the cult.
According to Soulcalibur V, he somehow survived his encounter with Maxi and killed the last remnants of the cult over Astaroth's heart. With it, he could recreate the monster however he wanted and achieve his goal of becoming a god to some degree. He created a new Astaroth, that later serves Graf Dumas, mass producing many others. Because of this, the cult is slowly getting back on its feet, regaining their lost techniques and technology. Kunpeatku also became a half-golem at some point, though this is never explained.
