“ | There is no such thing as a plea of innocence in my court, a plea of innocence is guilty of wasting my time. Guilty! | „ |
~ Fyodor Karamazov |
Fyodor Karamazov (also known as the Pyrophant Judge of Salem Proctor) is a character from the tabletop miniature game and sci-fantasy universe Warhammer 40,000. He also appears as a prominent antagonist in the fan-made web video series ''If the Emperor had a Text to Speech Device''.
Fyodor is an inquistor lord of the Imperium of Man, hailing from the Ordo Hereticus branch of the imperial Inquisition that is tasked with dealing with internal threats that come from within the Imperium such as treason, mutation, heresy, and witchcraft. Fyodor is extremely loyal to what he thinks the Emperor represents and is bitterly opposed to any form of change to the status quo of the Imperium, believing that the Emperor's plans must proceed without intervention.
He is a ruthless judge, jury, and executioner who doesn't care for any pleas of innocence, claiming that he has punished more heretics than Macharius.
While many members of his organization usually acts in secrecy, Karamazov often leads entire armies to descend upon worlds he finds wavering from the grand destiny the Emperor set forth for Mankind. There is no excuse or mercy in his court, even the innocent are guilty of wasting his valuable time and are set aflame with the many witches and traitors he claims he always discovers among the societies he comes to judge.
One of Fyodor's most infamous acts happened on the planet Salem Proctor. A lowly preacher named Icarael led the revolt of the populace of Salem Proctor against a corrupt cardinal and together with forces from the Inquisition defeated his armies and cast him from the burning ruins of his cathedral. None who met the young man could fail to be moved by his simple eloquence, his devotion to the Emperor, or his humility. To some, his incredible rallying of a planet was proof that Icarael was divinely guided and that the light of the Emperor moved within him. Therefore it did not take long before Inquisitors of the Puritan Thorian faction heard of this incredible young cleric and, feverish with the prospect of discovering a potential vessel of the Emperor's spirit, they set out for Salem Proctor. However, Inquisitor Lord Fyodor Karamazov took notice, marching over the charred bones of the dead heretics in his monstrous Throne of Judgement, had other ideas.
He arrested Icarael and took him to the inquisitorial fortress of Serevian and placed him in the Chamber of Truth and Penitence. Fyodor subjected the man to six months of torture and interrogation while ignoring the repeated demands of other Inquisitors and members of the Ecclesiarchy who wished to see Icarael. Ecclesiarch Decius XXIII petitioned the Masters of the Inquisition to have Icarael released, and other Inquisitors mobilized local forces and prepared to lay siege to Severian if they were not granted access to the preacher, but by then it was too late. Karamazov had already declared Icarael a false prophet of the Emperor and sentenced him to death. His burned remains were delivered to the Ecclesiarchy for interment and Karamazov casually returned to his duties. The Ecclesiarchy called for his immediate arrest and examination, but when the taint of Chaos was later uncovered on Salem Proctor among those who had followed the teachings of Icarael, Karamazov was vindicated in the most public way possible. Despite this, Karamazov had earned the undying enmity/hate of the Ecclesiarchy and the Thorian faction of the Inquisition.
Powers and Abilities[]
Fyodor Karamazov is a ruthless, uncompromising, and merciless man who has no qualms about sentencing people to death, it does not matter if they're truly guilty or innocent. In his mind innocence proves nothing, like he himself says "a plea of innocence is guilty of wasting my time." As an inquisitor lord he commands respect, recognition, and supreme authority wherever he treads. He only really answers to the Emperor himself, Lord Commander of the Imperium Roboute Guilliman, and the captain-general of the Adeptus Custodes.
He is an exceptional speaker, able to inspire and rouse up countless numbers of the faithful to wage war against individuals or even planets he deems lost or tainted. He is usually at the head of any crusade he partakes in. Considering the power he wields he is also skilled in the use of intimidation tactics. He cares not for collateral damage and is known to frequently make use of orbital artillery to reign fiery retribution upon the faithless.
Wargear[]
- Throne of Judgement: Whether outside of battle in his personal court or in the thick of the battlefield, Fyodor can be found sitting atop the unique mechanical device known as the "Throne of Judgement". Resembling a walking throne it is based on the chassis of a space marine dreadnought battle walker, and it is armed with a special triple-barreled Multi-Melta, a powerful fusion weapon that is very effective at turning vehicles and buildings to molten slag. Fyodor can also capitalize on the size and weight of the device by stomping on enemies with the feet of the throne. It also has room for two servitors (lobotomized cyborgs), one manning the multi-melta and one acting as a scribe. From this throne Karamazov dispenses his judgement on heretics and witches. This walking "throne" was given to him as a reward once he attained the rank of Inquisitor Lord.
- Sword of Justice: Fyodor carries the Sword of Justice as his personal weapon. It is a master-crafted power sword able to slice the heads off of heretics and witches alike with punitive ease. Since it is a power weapon it can be sheathed in a molecular disruption field with the touch of a button hidden in the hilt which allows it to disrupt solid matter allowing it to cut through armor, bone, and flesh with equal ease. He likely also uses the sword for personal executions.
- Inquisitorial Mandate: Like all Inquisitors Fyodor also carries on him the Inquisitorial Mandate. It lists all of the punishments for those who fail to do their duty to the Emperor. Anyone who sees this book is likely to be so fearful of the punishments listed therein that they will double their efforts to prove their devotion.
- Orbital Strike Relay: Once Karamazov has passed judgement upon his quarry, there is no limit to the magnitude of weaponry he can bring to bear against them. This device allows him to pin-point a target (or a heretic) and call in an orbital strike from a imperial ship in low-orbit, this is referred to as a "execution bombardment.
