~ Gabriel after getting inspiration from Deborah Madaki. |
Gabriel, also known as the Worker of Clay, is a minor antagonist of the Rusty Quill horror podcast The Magnus Archives.
He was a servant of the godlike entity known as the Spiral, being a skilled sculptor. As his skills grew, he set about building the centerpiece of the Great Twisting, a ritual that would bring the Spiral into the world.
Appearance[]
Gabriel was described as short and squat, with long, knobby arms that almost reached his legs. He had pale eyes, greasy black hair, and spiral fingerprints. His face was made of very life-like clay, and his eyes always looked like they were trying to escape his face.
Personality[]
Like most servants of the Spiral, Gabriel valued what didn't exist far more than what did and relished the idea into twisting the world into one where there was no real difference. He was fanatically loyal to the Spiral and Distortion, to the point descending into a suicidal rage when he couldn't help them. Despite this, he generally seemed a mild-mannered, if off-putting man when he was not actively changing reality and seemed to value other people in some odd way.
Biography[]
Up until 1972, Gabriel was a special-effects specialist who made clay figures for stop-motion. He worked with Neil Lagorio for several years, before eventually stopping, presumably after meeting the Distortion and pledging himself to the Spiral, setting out to bring about the Great Twisting.
In the early 2000s, Gabriel encountered some artist's block and signed up for an adult art class taught by Ray Quinton, who he somehow hypnotized into letting him make horrific twisted figures with his clay. He began seeking out Deborah Madaki, another student in the class, who Gabriel for some reason looked to for inspiration. Deborah found Gabriel unsettling and tried to leave the class, but Gabriel kept having the time and place changed so that wherever she went, she would end up at sculpting. Through using Deborah as inspiration and torturing and killing the other students using clay, Gabriel eventually got over his artist's block.
At this point, Gabriel set out to Sannikov Land, a nonexistent place created by the Distortion as the center of the Great Twisting. He invited Deborah to come join him there, but she did not, and he ended up creating the centerpiece of the ritual on his own. However, as the ritual came about and reality began to twist in such a way that would allow the Spiral and Distortion to take their true forms, it was interrupted by Michael Shelley of the Magnus Institute, who was able to temporarily defeat the Distortion, disrupting the Twisting. Frustrated, Gabriel tore out his veins, killing himself.
Powers and Abilities[]
Gabriel could use his clay to control reality, twisting it in unnatural and seemingly impossible ways that disrupted his surroundings. He seemed to be able to able to turn people into clay, including himself, and could control a person if he was linked to them enough. His powers extended to being able to control the entire world, but only with the support of the Distortion, and he required years of work to create the perfect sculpture.
