Gaira (ガイラ) is the main antagonist of the 1966 Toho Film War of the Gargantuas. He is the decendent of Frankenstein and brother/archenemy of Sanda.
In his debut appearance, he was portrayed by the late Haruo Nakajima who also portrayed the original Godzilla.
Name[]
The name Gaira comes the words from "kai" (海), which means Sea, and "-ra" (ラ), a recurring suffix in many kaiju names. In the Script of his debut appearance Gaira was given the name (海フランケンシュタイン Kai Furankenshutain) or Sea Frankenstein in English.
Appearance[]
Gaira looks nearly identical like his brother, but with green fur and skin, along with different facial features.
Personality[]
Unlike his brother, Gaira is a lot more hostile towards human, and even sees them as food.
Biography[]
One night, a fishing vasal was under attack by a giant octopus. Then Gaira came in and pulled the cephalopod off the ship. Sadly for the crew Gaira then proceeded to eat all accept one of them. Later Gaira continued to terrorize the Japanese and even came ashore to look for more humans. not long after his Gaira attacked Haneda Airport and ate a woman before the sun came out. Upon seeing the sun, Gaira rushed back to the ocean. Later after he attacked a Tokyo Night Club, the JSDF began to plan to kill Gaira. They used Helicopters to lure him into trip wires that would signal Maser Cannons to fire at him, chasing him into an electrified lake. At first it seemed Gaira was doomed to die but then his brother Sanda came to the rescue. Later Sanda is treating Gaira's wounds by splashing water on them. After he recovered from the attack Gaira went to hunt more people. hunting down a group that in it was Akemi, Sanda's aodoptive mother. Later Sanda saw the Gaira had been eating humans and Sanda attacked him with a tree. they then had a short fight before Gaira once again retreated to the sea. Gaira later went to Tokyo to find more food and he alost ate Akemi but then once again, Sanda came into the picture as Sanda couldn't reason with his brother, they yet again fought destroying serveral buildings in the procece. the JSDF also help Sanda in the fight using the Maser cannons on Gaira. After much fighting the brother went out to sea and Helicopters would rain explosive down on the pair, but an under water volcano erupted and both brothers were killed.
