Gakitsuki is the denchers-themed Minor Youkai of the Youkai Army Corps and a minor antagonist in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, appearing as the main antagonist of the 7th episode.
He was played and voiced by the late Taisuke Imai.
Biography[]
Past[]
One thousand years ago, Gakitsuki was one of three Yokai (the others being Azukairai and Noppera-bo) who attacked Ninjaman. Gakitsuki was able to escape from Ninjaman in the resulting chaos who was sealed away in an urn after he accidentally killed humans that he mistook for Yokai.
Gakitsuki was ultimately among the Yokai who managed to avoid being sealed behind the Seal Door by the Ancient Kakurangers but was reduced to a human form when the Yo Power was sealed with Daimaou. According to Gakitsuki himself, with his powers gone, he starved for thousands of years.
Kakuranger[]
By 1994, Gakitsuki has evolved from a hungry ghost to a Yokai based around denchers by the time that the Yo Power is released by Kappa. Although traditional Gakitsuki have a variety of hungers, Gakitsuki gains an obsession with eating copious amounts of food.
Gakitsuki storms into a burger restaurant to demand food only to be thrown down by a hungry Seikai who realises that he is a Yokai after Gakitsuki uses a mouth in his gut to eat the food. When Seikai tries to attack him though, Gakitsuki ties up and tries to kill him only to be knocked away by the arriving Kakurangers and has to seemingly retreat when Sasuke launches the Shark Driver finisher. Instead, he shrinks into a fly and enters Seikai's body which causes him to get an uncontrollable hunger before growing him to giant size to get even larger meals for the Yokai. Using X-ray, the Kakurangers discover Gakitsuki's presence but attempts to sneeze him out with pepper and resist a giant chicken fail until Tsuruhime turns into a burger. Due to loving Tsuruhime, he refuses to eat it so a frustrated Gakitsuki leaves his body instead only to be attacked by the Kakurangers and a normal sized Seikai. Gakitsuki tries to fight them but is overwhelmed by Seikai's Yellow Claw and Tsuruhime's Petal Storm before being defeated by thier combined K-Slash and Triple Slash. Enraged, Gakitsuki enlarges himself so the Kakurangers form Muteki Shogun and kill him with the Blazing Shogun Sword when the Yokai charges.
Gakitsuki is heard, along with all the other defeated Yokai, behind the Seal Door after Daimaou is finally sealed away by the Kakurangers. Reeling that they are now powerless in captivity, the Yokai all vow that they will one day be reborn and regain their power, cursing humanity.
Personality[]
Gakitsuki was an extremely gluttonous Yokai who would eat anything that he saw if it was edible.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: Gakitsuki was strong enough to hold onto a table in Seikai's stomach long enough for him to stop sneezing.
- Durability: Gakitsuki survived Tsuruhime and Seikai's combined K-Slash and Triple Slash without a scratch.
- Sight: Gakitsuki could see despite lacking eyes.
- Longevity: Gakitsuki lived for at least a thousand years without any side effects.
- No Need for Sustenance: Gakitsuki survived for thousand of years despite starving throughout that time.
- Unlimited Appetite: Gakitsuki was always hungry and ready to eat anything.
- Human Form: Gakitsuki could assume the human form of an overweight man by fading in and out of existence.
- Mouth Suction: In his human form, Gakitsuki had a large mouth identical to his true form on his gut that he could use to suck up food and eat it.
- Food Ninpo: Gakitsuki was a master of his own special type of food based ninja attacks such as;
- Cha Siu Roll: Gakitsuki could fire white energy from his right hand that would form into wire and restrain his enemies as seen with Seikai.
- Soybean Cannon: Gakitsuki could reach his right hand forth and fire an invisible energy blast. This caused a large explosion but didn't harm the Kakurangers.
- Shrinking: Gakitsuki could shrink down to the size of a fly at will by vanishing fast enough to avoid Sasuke's Shark Driver.
- Yokai Lightning Cloud Summoning: Gakitsuki was able to summon the Yokai Lightning Cloud to enlarge himself with its Yo Power.
Weaknesses[]
- Host Resistance: Gakitsuki could force anyone to eat as much as he wanted unless they put up significant enough resistance which would eject him.
Arsenal[]
- Utensils: Gekitsuki wielded a giant knife and fork in battle.
- Insatiable Hunger: After infecting someone, Gakitsuki could cause them to eat uncontrollably for his benefit by putting his utensils together and making them flash with green energy.
- Enlargement: Whilst affecting Seikai, Gakitsuki could make him grow to giant size by putting his utensils together and making them flash with green energy.

Trivia[]
- Gakitsuki was based upon the Japanese concept of a Hungry ghost; beings from Chinese and Japanese Buddhism who are driven by intense emotional needs in an animalistic way. Unlike the Gakitsuki presented in Kakuranger, thier hunger is not necessarily based upon food and can encompass lust or financial greed.
- Gakitsuki was also the only Yokai in Kakuranger not derived from traditional Japanese Yokai.
