Biography[]
Season 4[]
On an island where the cure for vampirism and the ancient immortal Silas are supposedly kept, a member of the Five, Galen, attacks Damon Salvatore and takes him captive. Galen reveals that he has completed his Hunter's Mark and explains his mission to find, cure, and kill Silas. Damon breaks free and joins the others in trying to retrieve the cure, but Galen injures Rebekah and Bonnie and tries to raise Silas, leading to a struggle where Katherine knocks him out. In Stand By Me, Damon and Rebekah capture Galen and torture him for information, learning that he received intel from Katherine about Silas' location and Hayley in New Orleans. Galen reveals that they should use the cure on Silas, fearing his power, but Rebekah remains unconvinced.
In The Walking Dead, Galen's ghost appears alongside Connor's and Alexander's in Mystic Falls after Bonnie activates the Expression Triangle and drops the Veil to the Other Side. They confront Rebekah and Matt outside the Grill. In Graduation, Galen shoots Damon with wooden bullets and demands the Cure in exchange for Silas, but Stefan kills him. Damon realizes the bullets were dipped in werewolf venom and gives Galen the cure. Galen follows Damon to the cliff, discovers Damon had been lying, and shoots him. Alaric's ghost appears and kills Galen by breaking his spine and throwing him off the cliff, taking back the cure.
Personality[]
Galen was a determined individual who was committed to completing the Brotherhood of the Five's true mission of curing and killing Silas, and was always prepared for any situation he may face. He showed no fear in the face of danger, except when Katherine threatened to kill him from behind, hinting that his fearlessness was a façade that could only be maintained if he was prepared. Vaughn, on the other hand, was willing to harm anyone who got in the way of his mission, including fellow member of the Five, Jeremy Gilbert. However, he did show some reluctance when he stabbed Bonnie from behind. Galen failed in his attempts to kill Rebekah and Damon, and gave them information to avoid torture when threatened.
