Galvatron II is an alternate version of Galvatron, and a major antagonist of the latter issues of Marvel's The Transformers. This version of Galvatron originated from a reality where he ruled Earth after the events of the movie. Brought to another universe by Unicron, Galvatron plotted against him, with madness eating away at his mind.
Biography[]
Megatron was critically wounded after a battle with Optimus Prime, and was sent drifting through space by Starscream's treachery. His barely functional mind longed for death, but Unicron found him, and reformatted him into the perfect servant. Galvatron was initially cold and clinical, but remnants of Megatron's insanity remained, eating away at his precision.
Conquering Earth[]
After Unicron successfully devoured Cybertron, Galvatron was allowed to do as he liked. Galvatron turned the Decepticons attention to Earth, and proceeded to conquer it, battling the Autobots led by Rodimus Prime.
At some point, as seen in the Regeneration One story Less Than Zero, Galvatron and his lieutenants Cyclonus and Scourge had successfully tracked Rodimus down to a planet of junk. His shuttle destroyed and his teammates killed, Rodimus was determined to stop Galvatron at any cost, but a sudden distraction allowed Cyclonus and Scourge to get the drop on him, breaking the chain that held the Matrix around his neck, and sending it flying away, and Galvatron killed him. He was unaware an alternative version of Hot Rod was observing these events, and managed to grab the Matrix.
Rhythms of Darkness[]
By 2009, the Decepticons had successfully conquered the Americas, but Galvatron's madness had grown. He strung up Rodimus's corpse between the remnants of Twin Towers and continued to "fight" him. He was aware that the European Crisis Coalition was planning a nuclear strike, but he was confident that their forcefield could protect them, unlike the rest of his men.
On the eve of the nuclear launch, a small team of Autobots and humans struck at the Decepticon Powerbase in New York, hoping to send a message to the world that there was still an active resistance movement in North America. Galvatron rescued Cyclonus from Autobots, so he could execute his minion for failing. The Autobots and Spike managed to call off the strike, and Galvatron took aim at Spike, but Hook, Line, and Sinker suddenly materialized and subdued him, then whisked him away.
Working against Unicron[]
Galvatron was taking into the past of another timeline and brought before that reality's Unicron, who insisted he go to Cybertron in order to pave the way for Unicron's coming. Galvatron led Hook, Line and Sinker in attacking the Autobot resistance but smarted from Unicron's betrayal and planned to defeat him. He enlisted the help of Autobot leader Emirate Xaaron to contact Primus, who slept at the heart of Cybertron. He was attacked by the other heralds but killed two of them, after which the third was destroyed by Primus, possessing Xaaron. Galvatron convinced Primus to transport all the Autobots and Decepticons back to Cybertron in the hope that together they could defeat Unicron.
Galvatron watched the engagement from the shadows but was disappointed that most of the other Transformers fled at the sight of Unicron. This prompted him to personally attack Unicron. He was swatted aside and played no further part in the battle, but his example convinced the Autobots and Decepticons to fight and defeat Unicron.
Return to Earth[]
Recovering from his wounds, Galvatron stowed away on the Ark when it was stolen by Shockwave and Starscream, who were planning to raid the undefended Earth. Exploring the corridors, Galvatron was stunned to encounter that reality's Megatron, who had been accidentally revived from stasis. Galvatron's first instinct was to try and destroy this other version of himself, but he managed to regain his senses. When Shockwave tried to kill Megatron, Galvatron came to his assistance and offered an alliance. However, before they could consolidate this new partnership, Ratchet (who had also been revived) sabotaged the engines, causing the Ark to crash on Earth.
Galvatron was the only survivor and immediately went on the rampage, wiping out a human military unit who came to investigate and then preparing to attack the nearest town. He was resisted by Fortress Maximus, the only Autobot left on Earth. Although Galvatron initially had the upper hand, Fortress Maximus eventually managed to throw him into a frozen lake, presumably leaving him deactivated.
Trivia[]
- This incarnation was introduced into the US comics so that Simon Furman could use Galvatron without getting rid of Megatron, or contradicting the UK series.
- Galvatron II was not referred to as such in the actual stories, and was first used as a name in the unofficial follow up to Generation 2, Alignment.
