The Gambetti Crime Family are the overarching protagonist in the 2008 video game, Grand Theft Auto IV. They are the strongest mafia family in The Commission run by 85 year old mobster, Jon Gravelli.
Influence[]
The Gambettis are based on the second most powerful and respected mafia family in the five families, The Gambino Family, who were second to the Genovese Family, who influenced the Pavanos in GTA IV.
Biography[]
Background[]
The Gambetti Family started during the early 20th century and became enemies with the Ancelotti Family during a war that accord during the 1970s. The underboss at the time, Jon Gravelli nearly murdered the Don of the Ancelottis, but spared him. Eventually in 1978, the Don of the Gambettis, Sonny Cangelosi died of an unknown cause, causing Jon to take over.
Events in Grand Theft Auto IV[]
At the time of GTA IV in 2008, the Gambettis and Ancelottis are still enemies, with them constantly fighting each other, along with having conflict with the Korean Mob and the Rascalovs, lead by Dimitri Rascalov and formerly by Mikhail Faustin. Eventually one of Gravelli's associates, Bernard aka "The U.L. Paper Contact" hires gunman, Niko Bellic to work for the Gambettis. Jon hires Niko to first protect politician, Bobby Jefferson from the Russian Mafia, to then kill Korean mobster, Kim Young-Guk and to then destroy shipments of the Ancelotti's cocaine. After this, Niko stops working for the Gambettis to confront Darko Brevic, with it being revealed that Jon Gravelli died during the end of the course of the game.
Events in Grand Theft Auto V[]
During a random encounter while either playing as Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips or Franklin Clinton, they must save Gravelli's underboss, Sammy Bottino's daughter, Antonia from being buried alive in Paleto Bay. If the player saves her, she will be picked up by Gambetti associate, Beppe. At this point it is heavily implied that Sammy Bottino is now the Don of the Gambetti Family.
