The Game Bugs are the main antagonists of the 2021 Nintendo Switch game WarioWare: Get It Together! They are, as their name implies, bugs trying to corrupt Wario's new game.

Biography

At the WarioWare Inc. headquarters, Wario declares the newest game finished, and all of his employees gather around to see it. However, the console starts to glitch out. And in annoyance, Wario tosses it into the air. A mouth is then displayed on the console's screen, which sucks everyone into the game. Wario finds himself just outside his own level, when a Game Bug appears, corrupting the environment, and entering the level. Wario chases after it, and eventually manages to remove it from his level, clearing out the corruption outside.

From there, Wario goes on to enter more levels, find his employees, and take out the Game Bugs one by one. Eventually, the crew makes it to the final level, where a massive Game Bug called the Mega Bug creates a monstrosity called the Wario Bug. After a long fought battle, Wario and his employees destroy the Wario Bug, causing the Mega Bug to fall out of it, defeated. Though, Wario decides to let the Mega Bug go, as he likes the aesthetic it brings to his level. Afterwards, the group encounters a being known as the Supreme Developer, who reveals that he was the one who brought the crew into the game, so that they could help fight the Game Bugs. The Supreme developer then opens a portal back to the real world, allowing everyone to finally leave.

Back in the headquarters, the group ponders where the bugs came from, to which it's revealed that Wario himself accidentally created them. Enraged with this revelation, the employees chase Wario around the building. Just then, Wario realizes that they've forgotten a few people, and they all go back into the game to find them.

At this point, the Game Bugs become irrelevant to the plot. Though, they do continue to appear as enemies in the tutorials for the remaining unlockable characters.
