The Gang Member is a minor antagonist in Season 1 of the South Korean Netflix series Squid Game. He is Jang Deok-su's subordinate in a South Korea gang and was killed due to him betraying Deok-su.
He was portrayed by Lee Chong-goo.
Biography[]
Past[]
Before the events of the series, the Gang Member joined a gang with Jang Deok-su as his superior.
Season One[]
He is initially seen meeting with his boss. The two would take a car ride to a bridge and talk about their strategies for breaking into the Squid Game Facility and obtaining weapons for Deok-su so he could steal the money and settle his debts. However, he notes that Deok-su appears to be hiding out after robbing the "big boss" and makes a remark about how he has seen Deok-su losing a lot of money at a casino in the Philippines.
Then, he admits that the Casino operators had located him in South Korea. He attempted to escape the car before Jang Deok-su stabbed him to death, saying that if they caught him, they would remove his organs for the money he owed. After killing his minion, Deok-su escaped from the Casino operators by jumping off the bridge.
Personality[]
While the unnamed gang member only appears in a single scene, one thing that is immediately and unmistakably apparent is that he is very stupid. Most likely knowing Deok-su for a very long time and therefore his very violent tendencies, he did not think of leaving the car before telling him that he has been betrayed, nor did he consider Deok-su having a weapon on him like any reasonable gangster should always assume.
