Gangplank, also known as the Saltwater Scourge, is a playable champion in the multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends, and is a major antagonist in its universe. He serves as the main antagonist of the “Burning Tides” storyline, and is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Thresh) of the 2021 role-playing game Ruined King.
Once the uncrowned reaver king of the port city of Bilgewater, Gangplank's defeat at the hands of the bounty hunter Miss Fortune left his his status lost, his ship destroyed, his crew dead, and his body horrifically injured. But despite this, Gangplank himself survived. Outfitted with a new metal arm, Gangplank is determined to reclaim what he believes to be rightfully his, and seek revenge on all who have turned against him. He is the archenemy of Sarah Fortune, having murdered her parents.
He was voiced by Matthew Mercer, who also voiced Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Anarky in Batman: Arkham Origins, Kilrogg Deadeye in World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, Deadshot in Injustice 2, Maximus in Leo the Lion, Kiritsugu Emiya in Fate/Zero, and Aiden in Minecraft: Story Mode.

Once a lethal and mighty pirate king, Gangplank for some time ruled over Bilgewater's underground, gaining large wealth through stalking and looting throughout the Twelve Seas' trade routes. This lifestyle of course gave him his enemies from stealing what was theirs, with enemies such as Zed, Swain, and Miss Fortune. However, no one has yet brought the pirate king to justice, even with the large attempts to end his life. However, his forces were eventually crippled by Miss Fortune's trickery, causing his ship and crew to be lost and Gangplank himself to lose an arm. Ready to take back his glory after losing it, Gangplank joins as a ruthless, greedy enemy to be feared.

Gangplank is a cruel pirate captain who maintains his power through fear alone. As such, he can be exceedingly brutal in his methods, even torturing members of his own crew should they step out of line. With bone-carving and mutilation, Gangplank also showcases an artistic side in his own sick and twisted way. In his quest to be feared, Gangplank often touts his own reputation to frighten people into submission. He often remarks at how many have tried (and failed) to kill him, and shows a remarkable resistance to pain when he orders a doctor to amputate his arm without a fuss.
Gangplank is shown to have little remorse for his cruel behavior, killing Sarah Fortune's parents without mercy before attempting to kill the young girl too. But when Miss Fortune got her revenge by destroying Gangplank's ship and reputation, Gangplank was furious due to his self-centered nature. The vengeful reaver king is not going away anytime soon, because now he is out for blood.

- A tip in Legends of Runeterra reveals that Gangplank eats his oranges "sweet and salty" by dipping them in the ocean first.
- Additionally, his splash art reveals he sometimes eats them without peeling first.
- Gangplank's old ship was named the Dead Pool, which was destroyed by Miss Fortune in Burning Tides.
- Gangplank also stole the warship Leviathan from Swain, though it is unknown if this is the same ship that appears in Legends of Runeterra.
- His post-rework design may be a reference to John Silver in Treasure Planet.
