~ Princess Zelda describing Ganon. |
“ | Gwah haa haaaa! Weaklings! Incompetent fools! You so-called heroes do not even stand a gnat's chance of harming me! Even if you worms attack in a group, I will skewer the lot of you on my mighty trident! | „ |
~ Ganon before attacking the four Links. |
Ganondorf, better known as Ganon in his demonic form, is the main antagonist of the 2004 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures.
He is a reincarnation of the original Ganondorf, who is once again a male born into the Gerudo Tribe. Succumbing to his own lust for power, Ganondorf steals the Trident of Power and becomes Ganon, the King of Darkness, much like his predecessor. Working in the shadows, he releases Vaati to serve as a distraction in his scheme to take over Hyrule.
He is voiced by Takashi Nagasako, who also voiced the original Ganondorf.
History[]
Backstory[]
“ | Seek… you… the world? Seek… you… power? Does your… soul… despise peace and… thirst for… more? Does your soul… cry… for… destruction and… conquest? We… grant you… power to… ruin… the world. The power of… darkness. Evil… spirit of magic trident. You are… the… King of Darkness. | „ |
~ The writings within the Gerudo Pyramid, driving Ganondorf to fulfill his destiny and steal the Trident of Power. |
After the original Ganondorf was killed at the end of Twilight Princess, the Gerudo eventually re-established their society. Over the centuries, a new male was eventually born and chosen as their guardian. The Gerudo named him Ganondorf once again, and vowed to raise him correctly to prevent another tragedy from befalling Hyrule.
However, unbeknownst to the Gerudo, Ganondorf was the reincarnation of a curse placed on Hyrule by the Demon King Demise, and was therefore destined to be evil. As Ganondorf grew up, he became increasingly fascinated by the concept of power and was unknowingly corrupted by Demise's curse. Eventually, he broke his people's customs by breaking into an ancient pyramid and stealing the legendary Trident of Power. The Trident transformed him into Ganon, the King of Darkness.
Four Swords Adventures[]
After his betrayal, Ganon was exiled from the Gerudo, and he begins to plot his takeover of Hyrule. Ganon summons Shadow Link to lure the real Link to the Four Sword Sanctuary. There, Link draws the Four Sword and accidentally releases the ancient demon Vaati, who proceeds to kidnap Princess Zelda and the Seven Maidens before wreaking havoc across Hyrule.
As Link is distracted trying to defeat Vaati and Shadow Link, Ganon slowly begins to take over the regions of Hyrule by opening up portals to the Dark World, flooding the Light World with monsters, and slaying the Knights of Hyrule to remove any opposition. He also convinces the Deku Scrubs to swear loyalty and start worshipping him.
Halfway through the game, Link travels to Gerudo Desert and discovers that Ganon is behind the events of the story. After defeating Vaati and freeing Princess Zelda and the Maidens, an enraged Ganon confronts Link for a final battle. Using the Four Sword, Link splits himself into four and successfully overwhelms Ganon, defeating the demon and trapping him inside the Four Sword for eternity in Vaati's place.
Trivia[]
- This is the first version of the character to be a reincarnation as opposed to being the same Ganondorf from Ocarina of Time or one of his alternate selves.
- This Ganon is the only main antagonist in the series confirmed to not die as he ends up sealed inside the Four Sword while other incarnations in all timelines, DethI, Majora, Veran, Onox, Bellum, Chancellor Cole, Zant, Vaati, Yuga and Null survive their final battles (Ghirahim and Calamity Ganon's fates are a subject of debate among fans, however).
