Gareb was an anti-villain introduced in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode United.
He was portrayed by Glen Hambly while hidden under a helmet, and his unmasked form was portrayed by Scott Allen Rinker.
Biography[]
A member of the Andorian Aenar sub-species, Gareb was the brother of Jhamel. Sometime prior to 2154, Gareb was abducted by Romulans who told him that he was the last of the Aenar. He was then manipulated into piloting the Romulan tele-presence drones, crew-less starships that could disguise themselves with holography as other ships. Gareb carried out a series of attacks on Tellarite and Andorian ships in the hopes of sparking a war between the two races he believed had committed genocide against his people.
The crew of the Earth ship Enterprise were able to board and take some detailed sensor readings, and found Andorian brain waves being used in piloting the ship. The Andorians were able to confirm that they were Aenar brain waves. Andorian Commander Shran was able to lead United EarthStarfleet Captain Jonathan Archer to the Aenar colony where they talked to Jhamel and learned Gareb had disappeared.
Jhamel accompanied Archer and Shran back to the Enterprise. The drones piloted by Gareb soon tracked the Enterprise down and began attacking the ship. Using tele-presence equipment developed by the Enterprise crew, Jhamel was able to make contact with Gareb and convince him that the Romulans had lied to him. Gareb then told Jhamel that he had caused so much death and destruction. When she responded that he could still make it right, he ceased the attack on the Enterprise and instead had the drones attack each other. One of the drones was destroyed in that attack, at which point the Romulan Admiral Valdore killed Gareb. The other drone was destroyed a few seconds later by the Enterprise. Gareb's sacrifice dealt a serious blow to Romulan ambitions in the region.
