Humans of Earth. Surrender immediately, and hand over the prince of Planet Gold. You have 44 minutes in Earth time to comply. Failure to do so will result in the petrification of all life on Earth's surface.
~ Gargorgon's ultimatum to humanity.

Gargorgon is a supporting antagonist in the Ultraman franchise. It first appeared as the main antagonist in the sixth and seventh episodes of Ultraman X and soon there would be various incarnations of the Kaiju that appeared in Ultraman Orb: THE ORIGIN SAGA, Ultraman R/B, and Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga. In her debut appearance in Ultraman X she is voiced by actress Jenya, a famous singer and voice actress.

Biography[]

Ultraman X[]

Gargorgon was first mentioned when it was said that she sank an entire civilization through its petrification down to the depths of the Earth. She would make her debut when Gargorgon was first seen already petrifying all of Planet Gold's people and Te Ru's sister, leaving him to be the sole survivor alongside his Rudian while it continued destroying the planet for power. Eventually, Te Ru made his escape.

Years later, Gargorgon arrives on Earth once it tracked down Te Ru and attempted to obtain the core within Rudian and absorb Te Ru for more power. She eventually fights Ultraman X and Rudian onward till X makes an attempt to finish the Kaiju off, but backfired when Gargorgon overwhelmed them both as she would then petrify X alongside Daichi before Te Ru makes an escape.

Gargorgon fled back into space to recover as it would telepathically transmit a message broadcasted to XIO, demanding to hand over Te Ru or she'll petrify the whole planet. A number of missiles demanded by the commander of UNVER insisted on having Gargorgon eliminated, but this was underestimated when the Kaiju absorbed it for energy to recover her strength fast.

She arrived on Earth one last time to fight off Te Ru who piloted Rudian as he fired the best he can at the Kaiju until Gargorgon overwhelmed Rudian and turns it into stone along with Te Ru as his sacrifice. However, all XIO managed to damage Gargorgon's eye, reverting X and Daichi back to normal, alongside Te Ru and Rudian. They both fought back against the monster to their full advantage before Gargorgon attempts to petrify them one more time, only for X to use the Cyber Bemstar Armor to reflect the petrification onto Gargorgon. This allowed Rudian, piloted by Te Ru, to destroy the petrified Gargorgon for good.

Other Onscreen Appearances[]

Ultraman Orb THE ORIGIN SAGA[]

In this series, a Gargorgon attacked the home planet of Alien Kanon, only to be challenged by the planets protector, the War Deity. After a beam battle between Gargorgon's Petrification Beam and the War Deity's Energy Beam, the mythical beast is defeated when the enemy's beam overpowers its own Petrification Beam, which caused it to petrify itself and explode into pieces afterward.

In reality, Gargorgon herself swiftly defeated the War Deity in the beam battle. However, before it could resume its rampage, the young princess of Kanon, Amate, pleaded it to stop. Hearing the pleas of the child, the Kaiju transformed itself into petals that drifted along the wind.

Ultraman R/B[]

In this series another Gargorgon showed herself suddenly, emerging from the sky. She was hindered by Ultraman Rosso and Ultraman Blu while advancing towards Aizen Tech headquarters. They were evenly matched until Gargorgon fired a petrifying beam which hit Ultraman Blu after getting reflected off a building. Gargorgon tried to strangle Ultraman Rosso but while struggling, Rosso saw his horns glow and summoned the R/B Slugger Rosso for the first time. He slashed the kaiju's eye, reversing Ultraman Blu's petrification, and saving his life in the process.

Remembering that Gargorgon's attack could be reflected by mirrors, Ultraman Rosso used the Aqua Mirror Wall to redirect another ray, causing the monster's own legs to turn into stone and become immobile. Ultraman Blu then slashed her eye again using the R/B Slugger Blu and after that both brothers performed the Cross Slugger attack, blowing her up, killing Gargorgon.

Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga[]

In this series, around 30 million years ago, a Gargorgon allied to Cameara herself was summoned by Carmeara to personally kill Yuzare, however, Yuzare reflected Gargorgon's Petrification Ray back at the evil monster, turning her to stone. Eons later in the present day, Gargorgon was freed from being turned to stone and was commanded by Carmeara to bring Yuna Shizuma to her.

Kengo Manaka transformed into Ultraman Trigger to fight against the monster, but struggled at first until Mitsukuni Shizuma, a man from Ultraman Tiga's universe reality, he immediately donned a remote-control set to aid Ultraman Trigger by piloting the GUTS Wing fighter craft. After getting one of its side heads shot, Gargorgon attempted to petrify Yuna, but Yuzare's spirit appeared from within her and blocked the beam, only for Gargorgon to avoid another defeat by sidestepping its reflected beam. Both the GUTS Wing and Ultraman Trigger continued to fire at Gargorgon and they eventually managed to disable one of her other lesser heads and striked her eye, just in time before the GUTS Wing turned to stone from its petrification ability. Ultraman Trigger then used the Circle Arms to slice Gargorgon in half with the Zeperion Sword Finish. This resulted in Mitsukuni Shizuma's GUTS Wing fighter-craft turning back to normal and it managed to fly back to it's base to be repaired.

Trivia[]

  • Gargorgon was stated to be behind the start of the Gorgon Myth in The World Where The Ultra Flare Occurred. She is even defeated with a reflective shield in a similar manner to Medusa.
  • It is also implied that she is responsible for the fall of the legendary city of Atlantis.
  • When Daichi scanned Gargorgon with Gao Diction, her roar seemed to indicate fear. It is possible that Gargorgon's hostility for others is due to her fear of being endangered.
  • Gargorgon's speech capability, was however a feature which Tsujimoto was in the least favor of.
  • In an initial script, the time given by Gargorgon for Earth to surrender was supposedly 44 hours instead of 44 minutes.
  • Also in an initial script, Gargorgon wasn't meant to be a singular being, but rather had her own species. Said breed was meant to be Greeza's minions but was scrapped in the final cut due to the heavy use of special effects.
  • Gargorgon's death parallels Medusa's death, where she was petrified after looking at a mirror shield (In X's case, having her petrification beam fired back at her using the Bemstar Spout).
    • The Gargorgon suit from Ultraman X was reused for Gargorgon's appearance in the Ultraman Orb THE ORIGIN SAGA tv series.
    • Considering how Gargorgon is able to defeat the War Deity, this theorizes that she is strong enough to defeat the Queen Bezelb, the former's "twin sister".
    • The Gargorgon suit from Ultraman X was once again reused for Gargorgon's appearance in the Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga tv series and as its last usage, as Takanori Tsujimoto stated on Twitter that the suit itself was at its limits.
    • Ever since her very first onscreen appearance in Ultraman X, Gargorgon herself has since then become an instant fan favorite and is also one of the most iconic and easily recognizable villain kaiju within the entire Ultraman franchise, since then.
