Biography[]
Legends[]
Garindan was a greedy Kubaz from his species' homeworld Kubindi. His full real name is unknown. He is a lower class minor crime lord and also a spy, willing to work for the highest bidder. Many civilians speculated that he was heavily rich, though his vast amounts of credits were only seen when he paid for information. Garindan's information was priceless, and his skills went to the highest bidder, whether it be to notorious gangster Jabba the Hutt (who was suspicious of Garindan finding out too much about Jabba's business transactions) or to the Imperials. Garindan was apparently capable of finding out a wide variety of information, as evidenced when he gave the possible whereabouts to Jabba concerning the fabled Yavin Vassilika.
In 0 BBY, Garindan was tasked with hunting down the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 after the Empire tried to hunt them down after they have stolen Death Star plans. Spying on the droids, who were accompanied by Luke Skywalker, and the exiled Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi. Garindan reported the droids location, Docking Bay 94. A group of Stormtroopers arrived and asked the villian where the droids were, in which Garindan reminded them it was in Docking Bay 94. Garindan left, with the credits in his hand. Later, Garindan had a meeting with Ketton spy Derrida and conferred. The meeting was overseen by an individual, who reported it to the Rebel Alliance. Garindan later helped Darth Vader find out about the origins of the Death Star destroyer. Sometime after the battle of Yavin, Garindan approached the ice planet Hoth. Garindan was hired by pirates to hunt down missing Jedi. Garindan found and killed the pirates. Sometime later, Garindan was captured and interrogated by the Rebel Alliance, asking him the whereabouts of his cousin Udin. Garindan`s ultimate fate is unknown.
Canon[]
Garindan`s full name in this continuity is Garindan Ezz Zavor, and it has been retconned in the new Canon that he suffers a tragic backstory. Garindan started out as a Kubaz civilian from a respectful clan. He had a wife and several children, who in turn at least one of them had grandchildren. Some became artists, others became senators for their own homeworld. Sometime in the Imperial era, Protocol droids from the Galactic Empire won over the Kubaz elders and lead the Kubaz into the heart of their vessel. Garindan was one of many Kubaz chosen as spies for the Empire. Garindan went through many training, and brainwashing. Tired of the Empire, and starting to feel hateful of them, Zavor slipped away while on a job and attempted to return to Kubindi, only to find its orbit guarded by Imperial firepower. Since he was not able to return to Kubindi, Garindan spend the next several years working as a spy in order to raise the necessary credits to hire a ship to travel back to Kubindi. Garindan also accumulated a datapad with the most current information, diagrams, and manuals on advanced technology and hyperspace travel. Garindan was determined to reveal the truth of the Empire's "exploitation" to his people and provide them with the necessary technology to claim their right to self determination. Around the time of Princess Leia Organa's secret mission to Tatooine, Garindan received a garbled comm message from Kubindi. Having not heard his own language for years, Garindan paid the robed female emissary all the money in his account. Garindan learned that not only was his family in trouble, but that his wife was dead. Determined to save his family, Garindan did his best to get enough credits that will take him back to his homeworld. Garindan was hired to track two missing droids, C-3PO and R2-D2. Spying on them as they were accompanied by former Jedi Obi-wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, Garindan later informed the troopers that the landing bay they were in was Docking Bay 94. However, the droids got away, and Garindan never got the credits. Later, Garindan conversed with the Devaronian Labria. However, Labria suggested Garindan a job on behalf of Derrida the Ketton, who needed a companion for a bounty that night. Labria explained that this job was against the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Determined to help his family and liberate the Kubaz from Imperial rule, Garindan agreed to get recruited. When Labria complimented Garindan's skills as a spy and asked about his motives, Garindan merely replied that he was "very far from home."
Personality[]
Legends[]
In the original Star Wars canon continuity, Garindan is a selfish, greedy, immoral Kubaz who enjoys eating Picolet beetles, like the rest of the Kubaz species. He is xenophobic towards Geonosians and doesn`t care if he betrays another person. If enough credits do enough, Garindan will take it. He also appears to not care for his cousin Udin, cowardly giving away Udin`s location to the Rebel Alliance.
Canon[]
In the current new Star Wars "Disney" Canon continuity, Garindan has different motives, and is a much more sympathetic character than his Legends counterpart. he also is an anti-villian. Unlike his Legends version, this version of Garindan seems to be more caring, and thoughtful. He loves his wife, his children, and grandchildren. Though he does hate humans for mocking him, he keeps himself silent. He is willing to risk everything to get back home so that he could help his family, but it goes through many hardships. This version of Garindan secretly hates the Empire, but does not support the Rebel Alliance`s motives.
