~ Dolan lying about molesting Micah Fuller. |
Gary Dolan is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Facing Demons". He is a pedophile who molests young boys, which leads to one of his victims committing suicide years later.
He was portrayed by William Sadler, who also portrayed Colonel William Stuart in Die Hard 2, Vernon Trent in Hard to Kill, Luther Sloan in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Niles Talbot in Tales From the Crypt, Wilson Concannon in The Hills Run Red, Tony Teresi in Power, and Don Perry in Trespass.
Early life[]
Dolan owned a magic shop in New York City and coached a Little League team. He molested several of the boys he coached, including Brian Cassidy, who would go on to become a detective in the NYPD's Special Victims Unit.
In the early 2000s, Dolan befriended a young boy named Micah Fuller by teaching him magic tricks. After he got Micah to trust him, Dolan revealed his true nature and molested him, which sent the boy spiraling into a deep depression that he never truly recovered from.
"Facing Demons"[]
After Fuller commits suicide while leaving Polaroids of a naked boy on his chest, the NYPD's Special Victims Unit investigates him as a potential child molester. When Fuller's parents identify the boy in the photos as Fuller himself at age 10, however, SVU Lieutenant Olivia Benson realizes that he was sexually abused.
SVU Detective Amanda Rollins looks through Fuller's social media and finds a poster from Dolan's magic shop. Sergeant Fin Tutuola and Detective Dominick Carisi Jr. interview Dolan, who claims that he does not know Fuller, but his guarded demeanor arouses their suspicion. Benson starts investigating Dolan's past and finds out that he was once a Little League coach to Brian Cassidy, her former colleague at SVU and her ex-boyfriend. Benson asks Cassidy about Dolan, and his defensive reaction leads her to believe there is more to their relationship than he is letting on. When Assistant District Attorney Peter Stone tells her that Cassidy had told him that his soccer coach had molested him as a child, she realizes that Dolan molested Cassidy and Fuller and arrests him.
During his interrogation, Dolan denies molesting any children, but Benson and Stone do not believe him. Stone thinks Cassidy will be an unreliable witness, however, so he asks Benson to find other victims. Benson finds Leo Berry, a childhood friend and former Little League teammate of Cassidy's, who eventually admits that Dolan abused him, as well. Berry testifies against Dolan, but Dolan's lawyer sees that he is intoxicated and uses it to get his testimony excluded from the trial record.
After Berry's testimony is excluded, Cassidy shows up at the courthouse and attacks Dolan. Benson manages to calm him down, however, and convinces him to testify about what Dolan did to him. Cassidy acts as a witness in court the next day and tells the jury that Dolan sexually abused him, and the jury finds Dolan guilty of child sexual abuse and sends him to prison.
