Gas Doubler (ガスダブラー Gasu Daburā) is a minor antagonist of Uchuu Keiji Gavan who appears in episode 26. He is a chameleon-like Doubler who disguised himself as Professor Ichinomiya (一宮教授 Ichinomiya Kyōju) and leads the group of terrorists called Dream Bird. He also helps Makuu with their plans to incite the third World War as well.
He is voiced by late Toku Nishio. His human form is portrayed by late Takao Zushi, who also played Hammer Man in Seiun Kamen Machineman and Doctor Kumazawa in Dengeki Sentai Changeman.
Biography[]
The group of terrorists named Dream Bird were seen terrorizing and massacring the entire village, even using the poison gases to kill them. One of its members Akira Sakata, is seen taking pictures of the scene, including the doll on the ground. However, one of Gavan's allies, Kojiro Oyama, managed to retrieve the documents and the photos from Sakata and send them to Retsu which led to him and Mimi went to the university for an investigation. They went to visit Professor Ichinomiya and interrogate him that Sakata might be a member of Dream Bird, which he rebuffs it. During his secret meeting with Sakata, Ichinomiya convinced him to stay by his side for a little longer by reminded him their deal when he became doubtful of his actions, while also not caring about his sister's need for surgery.
Back at the Makuu Castle, Professor Ichinomiya is seen reminded by Don Horror of their plans to raise young men into a cruel and violent war criminal in order to incite the World War III. He then mentally tortured Sakata with a device to make him believe that he's in a war in the jungle in order to keep him under his thumbs. When Retsu infiltrated the Dream Bird's headquarters, the same device that was used to mentally torture Sakata was used to do the same thing to Retsu, which he managed to break free of the device's effects through his transformation as Gavan.
The next day, Professor Ichinomiya called upon Sakata for another mission, which they were pursued by Retsu as result. At an unknown island, Ichinomiya ordered the Dream Bird to assassinate Retsu when he followed them in here. However, Sakata cannot bring the order after Retsu convinced him not to do this for the sake of his sister, so Ichinomiya decide to take matters into his own hands but only to be stopped by Sakata which led to his true form being exposed. In retaliation for rebelling and turning against him, the Gas Doubler sprays a poison gas towards Sakata which led to him being killed. After Retsu transformed into Gavan, the Doubler attempt to attack him with his staff before they were dragged into Makuu Space. Despite being struggled to fight against the Doubler due to being surrounded by poison gases, Gavan managed to finish him off with Gavan Dynamic, resulting in avenging Sakata's death.
