Gene Smilas is depicted as a middle age man with facial hair and wears a military uniform signifying his rank.
Personality[]
General Smilas initially appears to be an experienced and wise commander that listens to the opinions of his subordinates and shows care towards the people of Europia.
However beneath his exterior image, Smilas deeply despises the greedy E.U. statesmen and capitalist elites, viewing them as corrupt and showing admiration towards the French revolutionary Napoleon Bonaparte and what life would be like if he successfully became Emperor of Europe. Believing that a skilled dictator would be better for Europia than the democracy full of ignorance. Even going so far as to betray his allies in order to gain more power for himself. This suggests that at his core, Smilas is simply a power-hungry man who merely uses the ideals of Napoleon and the revolutionaries as an excuse for his own ambitions as its implied by the Caretaker of Spacetime that Smiles didn't desire to rule just Europia but in fact had aspirations to dominate the rest of the world as well.
Character History[]
During a car ride with Leila he shared his views on the E.U.'s democratic leadership, stating that it has caused "irresponsibility and self-interest" and that it would've been better if Napoleon Bonaparte became Europes emperor. He states that he and her father Bradow von Breisgau held a similar ideal before his death.
