General Lyes is an overarching antagonist in the Ace Combat video game series. He was the leader of Lyes United Front, one of the two major factions fighting for power in Estovakia after the fallout of the Ulysses planetfall.
Biography[]
After the government of Estovakia collapsed in the fallout of the asteroid Ulysses planetfall, multiple factions began fighting for control over the country. Lyes' faction, later known as the Lyes United Front, eventually became one of the powerful factions alongside the Eastern Faction. It quickly spread its influence across most of the country. Due to Emmerian government providing it with humanitarian aid, the LUF began to use it to suppress opposition by denying assistance to those rejecting its rule. This caused a humanitarian crisis to break out in the city of Gledina, with 200,000 citizens dying due to lack of aid. This action sparked outrage among the nation and prompt the Eastern Faction to take up arms against Lyes' regime, marking the start of the Estovakian Civil War. This was followed by other factions, including the Island Coalition, Independent Tariff Federation and Northern Highlands Federation, to declare war against one another.
Despite initial victory against the Eastern Faction and other rebel factions, the LUF soon started to lose ground as the Emmeria discovered the LUF plans and cease the aid program, putting the LUF on backfoot. This was furthered weakened when the Eastern Faction deployed the Aerial Fleet, turning the tide against the LUF favour. In a desperate attempt to end the war, Lyes attempts a large-scale offensive. However, the Eastern Faction once again proved superior, as it's Aerial Fleet comprised of P-1112 Agaion and CFA-44 Nosferatu crushed their offensive, securing the victory for the Eastern Faction and leading to Eastern Faction counteroffensives in return. Within weeks, the Eastern Faction won 80% of territory from Lyes United Front, significantly weaken Lyes' forces. Eventually, a final offensive against the LUF near Emmerian-Estovakian border occured, leading to Lyes' death and signaling the end of the civil war.
