Biography[]
Sugar Shock[]
After eating too much candy, Hector ends up having a sugar rush that results in Ozzy and all the other cells in his body to become hyperactive, as well as causing the bacteria population to skyrocket. Hector's parents cut off his sugar intake, which results in his blood sugar to drop, leaving Hector and Ozzy both extremely fatigued due to the sugar crash. Meanwhile, the bacteria join forces under the flag of General Malaise, who takes advantage of the cells' fatigue to steal sugar from the reserves located in Hector's muscles to feed his army, making them multiply even further. Once he had enough forces, Malaise attacked the central nutrient reserves of Hector's body to seize the remaining sugar so that his army could grow large enough to spread and infect Hector, causing untold pain and suffering. Ozzy and Drix end up defeating General Malaise by tricking him into stealing from the salt reserves instead, which Malaise doesn't discover until after he and his forces consume it, causing them to rapidly dehydrate and crumble to dust.
Journey to the Center of the Tooth/Cavities[]
General Malaise appears again, this time locked in prison, where he writes his "memoirs" to be mailed to a publisher. In reality he was writing out an escape plan to a fellow bacteria, who used some chocolate stuck on one of Hector's teeth to feed and strengthen a regiment of germs to break Malaise out of prison. Once freed, Malaise invades the infected tooth in order to turn it into his personal fortress, forming a cavity in the process. Ozzy attempted to stop Malaise, but get captured and nearly killed via a drilling machine, but Drix managed to distract Malaise by offering him a highly-concentrated sugar crystal "oxygenated with his own chemicals". Malaise immediately consumes it, but quickly double-crosses Drix, before suddenly dividing into two General Malaises, both of whom start to argue with one another. They both divide again and again until there were dozens of duplicates of the general, all bickering and arguing over who was in charge. They briefly regain focus to try and stop Drix from rescuing Ozzy but, as Hector was at the dentist at the time, the cavity ends up getting destroyed via the dentist drill, causing General Malaise and all his clones and forces to scatter. In the end they all end up getting washed away after Hector rinses his mouth out and spits them down the drain.
Appearance[]
Like the rest of his germ army, General Malaise appears as an anthropomorphic bacteria, with a green-skinned humanoid body covered in dark green spots, cylindrical bumps on his large round head, a big mouth full of thin, crooked yellow teeth, and three yellow eyes. He dresses in military uniform complete with a beret, gold epaulettes, knee-high boots, and several colorful medals pinned to his lapel, all of which resemble either bacteria or various body organs such as a brain, heart, and an intestinal tract. He also wields a riding crop and speaks with a high-pitched French accent.
Trivia[]
- The name "General Malaise" is a pun on the term "general malaise", a term for a non-specific overall feeling of discomfort and unwellness, or simply "feeling sick". It is not a disease by itself, but a highly common symptom of many different diseases, disorders, and other physical and mental illnesses.
- General Malaise's voice, stature, and warmongering aspirations seem to resemble a villainous parody of Napoleon Bonaparte, though his uniform resembles an amalgam of several different uniforms from varying countries and eras.
