You think you are guardians? Grineer rule supreme! Grineer protect all!
~ General Sargas Ruk proudly proclaiming Grineer superiority.

General Sargas Ruk is a supporting antagonist in the MMO third-person shooter Warframe.

Having been promoted to the rank of general for his complete conquest of Saturn, Sargas Ruk has made a name for himself as one of the most dangerous leaders the Grineer military has to offer, becoming the archenemy of Cressa Tal, the leader of the Steel Meridian splinter faction.

He is voiced by Kol Cosbie, who also voices Captain Vor and Alad V.

Appearance[]

General Sargas Ruk is clad in orange and grey heavy armor and his helmet only has a singular glowing eye in its center. All of his limbs are entirely mechanical and his lower right arm has been replaced with a massive flamethrower. A heat exhaust for said flamethrower is mounted on his left shoulder, though two more emergency exhausts are located on his chest and back should the primary exhaust be destroyed.

Personality[]

While the General shares the xenophobic views with other Grineer, he is one of the few figures in the Grineer Empire with a distinct sense of honor and respect for those that deserve it. He was eager to fight with and complimented the Tenno that sided with him during the Gravidus Dilemma and was both disappointed and enraged by those that aided the Corpus, as it meant they were condemning their own to Corpus experiments.

All Grineer despise those that betray the empire even more than they do non-Grineer, but none have a greater hatred of traitors than Ruk. He was outraged when Councilor Vay Hek ordered the reconditioning instead of immediate execution of the Grustrag Three and there is no one he hates more than Cressa Tal from the Steel Meridian splinter group, who once served under him.

However, since the Tenno have aided those he considers traitors to the Grineer on several occasions, Sargas's opinion of the Tenno has steadily worsened. By the time of the Scarlet Spear event, he outright refuses to even consider joining forces again, in spite of the increasing presence of the Sentients posing a threat to all life in the Origin System, including the Grineer.

His voice is coarse and fragmented, likely a result of breathing smoke from extensive use of his flamethrower, but the General also seems to have problems expressing himself clearly. Most notable is a poor grasp of metaphors, such as declaring that he will crush the greedy "milk" from the skulls of the Corpus and that Hek will "bleed regret" for allowing the Grustrag Three back onto the field.

Biography[]

The Gravidus Dilemma[]

When Alad V of the Corpus discovered a hidden cache of Tenno in cryosleep and intended to use them for the development of his Zanuka Project, Sargas Ruk became outraged as this was a violation of a contract between Grineer and Corpus regarding the weaponization of Warframe technology. The General gave Alad an ultimatum: hand over the Tenno or be crushed by his fleet. Alad refused. Ruk promptly declared Alad's territory Grineer property, invading Corpus space and enslaving the local population.

Taking notice of the developing situation, the Lotus turned to her Tenno and faced them with a difficult choice. Either side could win the war and only the Tenno can tip the scales to either side's favor, however the presence of the sleeping Tenno made the situation complicated. If they support the Grineer they can save their fellow Tenno, but this would allow the empire to considerably grow in strength. Supporting the Corpus prevents this, but this would result in losing the cryopods to Alad's experiments. The Lotus couldn't in good conscience force either option onto the Tenno, so she let them decide for themselves who to support.

When fighting for the Grineer, Ruk showed himself eager to punish the Corpus alongside the Tenno and commending them on their battle prowess. When opposed, Ruk showed disappointment in the Tenno for being willing to betray their own and tried to convince them to change sides or die for a worthless cause. Ultimately, the majority of Tenno stood with the Grineer and secured victory for Sargas Ruk.

The Pacifism Defect[]

An emergency broadcast from Steel Meridian leader Cressa Tal reached the Tenno, asking for their aid in saving the crew from a convoy of allied ships that were being run over by the Infested while trying to outrun Ruk's armada. Further complicating matters was the nature of the crew: a group of Grineer defectors formerly under the command of Sargas Ruk who call themselves the Kavor.

The Kavor were no longer able to force themselves to kill for Ruk and deserted, seeking a simple life without violence. Enraged by their treachery and disgusted by their pacifistic gene defect, as all Grinner are clones engineered to kill for and obey their superiors, Ruk wanted to make an example out of them. Initially Ruk was content with leaving them to the Infested, but after seeing the Tenno double their efforts in saving them sent unstable Grineer Manics into the infested ships to make things more difficult. Lives were lost, but most of the crewmembers were saved.

The Pyrus Project[]

With the amount of help that the Tenno have given the Steel Meridian in both rescuing the Kavor from Ruk and saving those captured by Kela De Thaym in the Rathuum event, Cressa Tal decided it was time to give something back. She organized a construction project to rebuild one of the many relays lost to Councilor Vay Hek's Fomorian fleet, all that was needed from the Tenno was to aid in getting the construction materials. As the Tenno stole a compound prized by architects called Pyrus Essence from the Grineer, Sargas Ruk caught wind of their operation. Once he discovered that they were being led by his former subordinate, he became enraged enough to send even the Grustrag Three after them.

Despite the Grineer's bolstered resistance, Steel Meridian and the Tenno successfully rebuilt the relay. However, Ruk would not simply let them take victory, personally leading an assault on the relay with intent to burn it down for good. The Tenno battled the general and his troops aboard the flaming relay, ultimately saving the day once more. Faced with defeat, Ruk defiantly told them that their victory over him would never change what Steel Meridian and Tenno are: genetic rejects and Orokin freaks.

Scarlet Spear[]

After hundreds of years of absence, the Sentients finally returned to the Origin System with genocidal intent. To start off their invasion, the Sentient commander Erra dispatched a fleet of Murex warships to attack Earth. The Tenno formed the first line of defense to fend them off, coordinating simulaneous assaults on the Murex in space and the Condrix dropships they launched onto Earth on ground, something that did not go unnoticed by Ruk.

But rather than put aside his differences and aid the Tenno, the vengeful general was convinced that the Sentient's return was either the fault of the Tenno or some kind of ruse and ordered his troops to attack Tenno and Sentients alike, much to the frustration of defense coordinator Little Duck from the Solaris United resistance network. As the Sentients posed a threat to the entire Origin System, Grineer included, Ruk's vendetta only put everybody in more danger.

Quotes[]

Rraahudd Tenno! Now we fight together! Now we crush the greedy milk from their skulls. The Corpus will pay for their crimes with their useless lives.
~ General Sargas Ruk's message to the Tenno that aided him during the Gravidus Dilemma.
Cressa Tal, I gave you everything: a command, soldiers eager to kill and die. All the glory a leader could ever want! And instead, you chose to stand with rats.
~ Sargas Ruk confronting his former subordinate.
Vay Hek,
Releasing the Grustrag Three? Tell me this rumor is a lie. Tell me you have not forgotten what those defects cost me. Traitors must be eradicated but you think they can be rehabilitated? Arrogance. If it was up to me, Grustrag and everything in it would be ash. No Doctor can cure disloyalty.
The responsibility for this mistake is yours alone. Trust me, you will bleed regret.
Ruk
~ Sargas Ruk's message to Councilor Vay Hek regarding the Grustrag Rehabilitation Project.
Tenno - we should set aside our differences and work together... HAHAHAHA NEVER!
~ Sargas Ruk during the Scarlet Spear event, showing how much he has grown to hate the Tenno.

Trivia[]

  • During Warframe's open beta, the game's bosses were simple reskins of regular enemies albeit with custom weapons. General Sargas Ruk was a Heavy Bombard equipped with a Gorgon machine gun and able to put down energy shields. Unlike other bosses from the open beta, whose initial abilities were incorporated into their reworks, these traits were removed entirely in favor of giving Ruk a flamethrower and fire-based abilities.
  • One of the Rathuum executioners under Kela De Thaym's command is a former medical officer named Dok Thul. Ruk sent him to serve as an executioner as a form of punishment after he failed to save one of Ruk's favored officers, further showcasing Ruk's vengeful nature.
