General Daniel Traunt is a minor antagonist in Borderlands 3. He is the older brother of Captain Traunt, and seeks to avenge his fallen sibling against the Vault Hunters with extreme prejudice. One of the highest known ranking members of Maliwan's army, it is possible that he took over military operations after the death of Katagawa Jr. and continued the company's alliance with Tyreen Calypso.
Biography[]
Seemingly coming from a family with a long history of serving the Maliwan armed forces, Daniel Traunt would rise up through the ranks all the way to the esteemed rank of General. Some time during his career, his younger brother Samuel also enlisted, and the two shared a close bond, with Daniel teaching Samuel how to fight and how to wield the weapons and gear of Maliwan. When Maliwan allied themselves with the Children of the Vault, Traunt set off to take part in the Bandit side of things, unleashing death and destruction across the cosmos while the other half of Maliwan dealt with Atlas on Promethea.
Eventually, Samuel would fall to the Vault Hunters on Athenas, enraging Daniel and making him swear vengeance. With Tyreen one stead ahead, she sent him and the remainder of the Maliwan army to her homeworld of Nekrotafeyo to wait in ambush for the Vault Hunters. When they finally arrived, Traunt directly engaged them in combat. After a fierce battle however, Daniel would also fall to them as well. Seeing as how Daniel died before The Bloody Harvest, it's likely he never found out that his younger brother would ultimately rise again as an undead.
