General Zeu is a major antagonist in the Sand Land franchise. He serves as the main antagonist of the original manga and its adaptation in the anime, the Prince of Demons arc.
He was the general and commander of the Sand Land Royal Army, working under the king. However, he was the true mastermind as he used the king as a figurehead to take control of the land and made civilians pay money to buy water from their reserves. He is also the archenemy of Sheriff Rao, better known as General Shiva.
He was voiced by Nobuo Tobita.
Personality[]
Zeu is extremely manipulative, deceitful, and power hungry. It was shown that he manipulated General Shiba into believing that Picchi created a weapon, so he wanted both Shiva and Picchi killed in the great explosion, while he used the device to mass produce their own brand of water, so he can force the civilians to pay for their supply. He had no qualms of sacrificing his own men as he intended to use those bombs attached to the Insect-Men to kill those heroes.
History[]
Thirty years ago before the present, Picchi, who are a race that are small blue humanoid, created water producing device that is fuel by Aquanium, a power crystal that if harmed can cause a mass explosion, to help deal with desert drought. Picchi gave some of the Aquanium to the Sand Land Royal Army to help out the people. However, Zeu had others plans with it as he ordered General Shiba to destroy what the latter believed that the Picchi created what was allegedly a weapon. As a result of the attack, it caused a great explosion that killed lots of people including General Aro, who was the father of General Are, Sexy Terrier, who was General Shiba’s wife, many of Picchi, and General Shiba. However, unknown to Zeu, Shiba survived as he fake his death to leave his past behind and became a sheriff of a village under the name Rao.
During the next thirty years, he helped the king ruled over the land making citizens suffer water shortages that they need to pay a lot of money for it. At some point, he was part of the war against Forest Land. Also, he trained and manipulated Are to being his general. He converted himself to being a cyborg to prolong his life.
Synopsis[]
Zeu first appeared hearing reports from General Are about a tank being stolen and their plane being shot as well, and he also learned about those thieves driving the tank where the reservoir are. He scolded General Are for those issues that he decided to use the mass media and offer a bounty of 30 million Zeni for civilians and bounty hunters to track them down as well as to send four tanks to deal with them led by General Are. He sent reports to the king about the situation that could compromise their rule over Sand Land.
The next day, General Zeu learned the perpetrator were two demons and to his shock General Shiva, who is alive, from the medias courtesy of one of the Swimmers. He hears from General Shiva's message to Sand Land about his plan was to find the spring to help everyone in Sand Land to deal with drought as stealing a tank was the only way to help. Also, Zeu got another message that is personal from Shiva, now know the truth thanks to Thief's story, is that he will never forgive him for deceiving him. He was angry for hearing such message that he ordered General Are to kill Shiva and those demons without question, despite General Are wanting to know the truth about the great explosion since his father died as well. Also, he wanted General Are detained for starting to know the truth of the great explosion. He sent a plane to track the stolen forcing the heroes to abandon the spring that they found after the fight with General Are and Swimmers to protect the surviving Picchi and letting them live in peace. The heroes managed to damage the airship, however the soldiers were able to get image of the stolen tank, and much to Zeu's shock, he recognized Beelzebub.
He went to the lab for the Insect Men, which are a race of humanoid insects created by Dr. Pose to assist the Sand Land Royal Army, to be used to kill General Shiva, Beelzebub, and Thief despite the scientist protest that they are not ready as well as adding bombs on every one of them.
Once the heroes arrive to the spring that is occupied by the Sand Land Royal Army with the dam blocking the water entering in the Sand Land, Zeu sent in several Insect Men to kill them. Beelzebub order those two to deal with the dam and Zeu, while he will take care of those Insect Men. Zeu watched those Insect-Men beating up Beelzebub, however the latter managed to beat them up that the former had to use those bombs to kill those Insect-Men and Beelzebub. Meanwhile, Rao and Thief are busy dealing with Zeu. Zeu was shocked to see Beezlebub defeated those Insect-men that Zeu triggered a switch to set off those bomb on the Insect-men to kill Beezlebub. Also, he used a giant bomb hidden in the cyborg body to kill everyone, however, General Are, intervened by using a tank to shoot at his cyborg body.
In the manga, that attack caused his cyborg body to fly crazy and then made it explode killing him in the process.
In the anime and video game however, Zeu is still alive and has a final gambit that he had to eject his cyborg body that was damage by General Are to fly above the dam from a safe distance and intended to use the remaining Insect-Men to blow up everything. However, Beelzebub, who managed to recovered from the last attack, managed to stop Zeu from detonating and punched him sky high never to be seen again.
The heroes, General Are and Swimmers manages to destroy the dam, and they managed to bring the water to Sand Land allowing the humans and demons to never suffer from water shortage again. Also, General Are has been promoted to Supreme Commander with Rao's blessing, and this will bring peace to people Sand Land as well as forcing the King of Sand Land to give his wealth to the people the help bring change in order to save his reputation.
