Gengetsu Kibaoni is a power hungry ancient warlord, the archenemy of the Ninningers, the ruler and patriarch of the Kibaoni Army Corps and the main antagonist of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. He is the husband of Ariake no Kata, the father of Kyuemon Izayoi and Mangetsu Kibaoni as well as the master of Raizo Gabi and Masakage Tsugomori.
He was voiced by famous Japanese voice actor Makoto "Mugihito" Terada who is most well known as Sigma in Mega Man X and Dr. Saotome in Getter Robo Armageddon.
Biography[]
Past[]
Gengetsu Kibaoni was originally a normal human warlord in the Sengoku Era of Japan renowned for his cruelty and brutality. During his reign, Gengetsu had an affair with a concubine which he hid by making the resulting son (Kyuemon Izayoi) into his page instead. Gengetsu sought to unite Japan under him through fear until his reign and eventually conquer the entire world was put to an end when he was assassinated by ninjas from the Igasaki Clan. However, before dying, Gengetsu vowed to come back and conquer the world through terror. Knowing that he would likely make good on that promise, the Igasaki Clan and thier descendants continued to practice Shinobi techniques for the next 450 years.
444 years later, Gengetsu reincarnated along with his three generals although the ressurection process caused them to lose their humanity and become Youkai themed around Noh Theater. They caused destruction until Gengetsu and his forces were once again defeated and sealed away once again by Yoshitaka Igasaki with the 48 Sealing Shuriken at the cost of his own life.
Ninninger[]
However, by 2015, the seal wears off and Gengetsu is freed by Kyuemon though he is unable to assume a tangible form. Gengetsu thus orders Kyuemon and his forces to gather enough fear from humans in order to fully revive him. To accomplish this task, Kyuemon uses the corrupted Sealing Shuriken to create Youkai monsters and revive Gengetsu's other top generals.
After Kyuemon revives Masakage Tsugomori, Gengetsu appears before his army and, delighted at the terror they have spread, tells them to gather more fear in order to resurrect him. Gengetsu later intervens to personally create a Youkai from two of the Sealing Shuriken at the request of Masakage. By combining two Sealing Shuriken with a toolbox, Gengetsu creates the powerful Advanced Yokai Nue. Gengetsu is later contacted by Masakage again, who asks for his permission to summon more Advanced Youkai. Gengetsu agrees and bestows his power onto ten of the Sealing Shuriken as well as telling Ariake no Kata not to cause trouble for Masakage.
Gengetsu is later fully revived after the death of his son, Mangetsu Kibaoni, when Kyuemon uses Ariake no Kata's despair over the loss to revive him. In the final battle against the Ninningers, Gengetsu absorbs Kyuemon to become more powerful which results in him growing giant but Kyuemon, encouraged by the Ninningers' declaration that they are fighting because they choose to and not because of their family lineage, breaks free of Gengetsu. Severely weakened, Gengetsu is then killed by the Ninningers in Gekiatsu Dai-Oh with the Gekiatsu Dai Fever but he swears to return once they are all dead.
Zyuohger[]
Kibaoni is one of five villains who are revived by Gillmarda to fight and kill the Ninningers and Zyuohgers as part of his job from the Deathgalien. Overwhelming the two, Kibaoni is held off by Yamato as Zyuoh Gorilla before Yosiharu and Tsumuji Igasaki arrive to assist Takaharu, forming a trio of AkaNinger generations who destroy Kibaoni again.
Chou Super Hero Taisen[]
An iteration of Gengetsu Kibaoni is among the Shocker army of the Game World led by Shocker Leader III, the boss of the Chou Shocker Taisen bonus stage. This army is ultimately wiped out by a combined force of Sentai Rangers and Kamen Riders; Kibaoni is destroyed alongside Z Shin by Kamen Rider Snipe Hunter Gamer Level 5 with assistance from five summoned Final Form Kamen Riders.
Personality[]
A Machiavellian psychopath, desiring only for power, Gengetsu was an intelligent, cunning and calculating mastermind who will stop at nothing to conquer the Earth and humanity and get rid of Ninningers. While his belief in uniting Japan and later the world in fear makes him a powerful warlord, he is also a competent schemer as he has come up with contingency plans and due dates for the return that he planned to do in 2015. This also made him a patient one, willing to wait as long as 444 years to take his vengeance and resume his fear ruling goals. He seems to get along well with his generals, listening to their requests to gather fear for him and willing to assist in any plan they came up with whenever he could, as he does when granting Masakage's request to create an Advanced Yokai.
Ultimately however, he was a foil to the family of the Igasaki Clan, having none of the concerns of family and willing to sacrifice his own to gain more power. Even outside of absorbing both his wife and firstborn son, he doesn't react the slightest to the death of his secondborn and in fact used it as means to revive fully and nothing more.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Power: Gengetsu Kibaoni is the most powerful member of Kibaoni army and the most powerful enemy the Ninningers ever faced. He surpasses in strength all of his family and underlings combined and possesses multiple supernatural powers and abilities.
- Strength: Gengetsu was able to hold his own against the full Ninningers team with their full arsenal of weapons and easily outmatched them.
- Durability: Gengetsu's body is fully covered with golden armor that grant him protection from various attacks.
- Hitokarage Summoning: By sending a torrent of darkness, Gengetsu could manifest Hitokarage to assist his Yokai or generals in combat.
- Darkness Manipulation: After being reborn as a ghost, Gengetsu could manipulate darkness to his own liking.
- Yokai Creation: By using one or more of Yoshitaka's 48 Sealing Shuriken, Gengetsu could corrupt any targeted object and transform it into a Yokai. Once the Yokai was defeated, the Sealing Shuriken would be purified and either be retrieved by the Ninningers or fall back into Kyuemon's hands to be made into more Yo Shuriken.
- Youkai Recreation: Gengetsu's greatest show of strength where he unleashed all of his energies across Tokyo as a massive purple wave. In doing so, he resurrected many past Youkai both at human size and as giants.
- Power Blocking: In doing so, Gengetsu also de-powered the Ninningers and removed their ability to morph.
- Apparition: Though his body had not yet been fully revived, Gengetsu could appear as a specter in order to communicate. Appearing through a pool of darkness to communicate with his servants at his lair, Gengetsu could also manifest as a phantom of his giant form.
- Fear Empowerment: To fully revive, Gengetsu must be nourished with human fear which he could consume to revive himself.

- Gangataikaku: Gengetsu Kibaoni carried a massive brown-gold naginata as his weapon.
- Way of the Supreme Fang - Hundred Demons Illusion: Gengetsu's signature attack where he could create massive jaws that separates into multiple explosive fangs from his Gangataikaku that would slam into his enemies.

Trivia[]
- Kibaoni's prediction that he would be back in 444 years is based on superstitious belief of the Japanese that the number 4 is a number of death. This is due to the homophone sounds of the words in the Japanese Language (Shi), despite having differing Kanji.
