The Genie of the Lamp is a minor antagonist in the 2017 RPG Miitopia. He plays a large role in the Neksdor chapter of the game.
Biography[]
Supposedly, many years before the events of Miitopia and the creation of the Dark Lord or the Dark Curse, the Genie of the Lamp was a sleeping spirit. Upon being released from his lamp, he began using his fantastical magic power to cause trouble and terrorize Neksdor. After a while, though, the Great Sage sealed him back into the lamp again.
Shortly after beating the first chapter of the game, moving from Greenhorne to Neksdor, the downtrodden Prince is seen walking back to his kingdom, jealous of his beloved Princess marrying the Besmirched Noble's Son instead of marrying him. Seeing the Genie's lamp and picking it up, the Genie makes up a sad story about "an evil sage" having locked him in there and that he would grant any desire the Prince had if he set him free.
The Prince foolishly sets him free by rubbing his lamp, causing the Genie to laugh. Revealing he would not be required to fulfill any wishes after being freed, he left the Prince alone and decided to celebrate being freed by raiding a nearby town of all its gold. After doing so, he hid himself in a cave to admire his loot.
Meanwhile, the heroes learned of the Genie's existence and that he had been freed. Encountering the Great Sage and wanting to help the town get its gold back, the Great Sage told them how to defeat the Genie. After defeating the Minotaur that blocked the cave entrance, the protagonist approaches the Genie. Cocky as usual, the genie refuses their request to return his gold. Chanting his name, the genie is almost sealed back inside of his lamp, but manages to convince the heroes to let him escape. As gratitude, he returns the gold he had stolen and apologizes.
Just as the town is celebrating, however, the Dark Lord comes by and steals the townspeople's faces, including the genie's. Taken to the Great Pyramid and attached to a Pharaoh, the Genie is then saved by the heroes. Realizing how terrible it is to lose something precious, he promises not only to never cause trouble, but to actively help others. After all faces are returned, he begins working for the Desert Celebrity and blows away a rock slide, allowing the heroes to pass onto the next kingdom. Throughout the game, the team receives letters from him telling them about being a barista for the Desert Celebrity.
When the team is going through the Sky Scraper, the now-Darker Lord once again steals the genie's face and attaches it to a stronger Pharaoh. Upon being set free again, he wishes the heroes luck in defeating the evil entity.
