Gennon is a minor antagonist in the dark fantasy manga series Berserk, as well as its anime adaptations of the same name. He was a high-ranking noble in Tudor, having the rank of governor of Doldrey and commander of the Tudor northern frontlines. He had a bad reputation of being a pederast and he fought the Band of the Falcon in the Battle to capture Doldrey.
He was voiced by the late Shoji Oki in the Japanese version of the 1997 anime adaptation, and by Kazuki Yao in the Japanese version, and Steve Kramer in the English version for the Golden Age Arc II movie.
Personality[]
Gennon had the bad reputation of being a pederast, specially towards the male gender, as he hired young children and teenagers from nearby villages, almost all of them boys, to work as his attendants. He also had an obsession towards Griffith, with whom he once spent a night due to the need of wealth from the latter in order to finance the Band of the Falcon.
History[]
When Griffith created the Band of the Falcon, they got involved in a territorial dispute, where Gennon was involved. In order to gain some wealth to finance his band, Griffith decides to spend a night with him, gathering some wealth as a reward. However, Gennon got obsessed with Griffith and spent some years trying to reunite with him again and repeat what happened that night.
Over the years, Gennon's feats led him to gain the rank of governor of Doldrey as well as the commander of the Tudor army. After the Band of the Falcon, now members of the Midland army decide to take Doldrey, Gennon sees it as an opportunity to reunite with Griffith, and therefore, orders Boscogn, general of the Purple Rhino Knights not to kill Griffith. Nevertheless, as the battle intensifies as well as Boscogn's behavior, Gennon decides to intervene and takes command of the army, offering a double promotion and a monetary reward to anyone who captured Griffith alive.
However, after Guts killed Boscogn, and since the castle was left alone with a few men Casca's group took care of, the Band of the Falcon quickly conquered the castle. With the battle lost, Gennon's army starts to surround and flee, causing him to fall off his horse. It's at that moment when he reunites with Griffith. He starts asking him to forgive him and talking about how they had fun that night. But when he asks Griffith if he resents him, Griffith calmly answers that he doesn't resent him but he doesn't sympathize with him either, with him being just a rock that crossed in his way, and taking the opportunity that opened to him. Gennon tries to complain, but Griffith stabs him in the eye, arguing that he wouldn't like him to spread rumors about him. Gennon's body is left on the battlefield.
