George is one of the overarching antagonists of the Mother/EarthBound video game franchise.

He is the adoptive father of Giygas who after being kidnapped by his alien race alongside his wife, Maria. One day, he would betray the aliens by stealing their PSI and using to help Earth, which would cause the species to begin its war against Earth. He is also the great grandfather of Ninten.

Biography[]

From a tender age, George faced the tragedy of losing his parents. Upon high school graduation, he embarked on a career as a delivery boy for a renowned newspaper publisher in a bustling metropolis. Soon thereafter, he transitioned into the role of an adept reporter. Despite lacking a college education, he carved out a niche for himself in the field of journalism. His insatiable curiosity served as his primary driving force, leading him to claim numerous exclusive stories as his own. One such breakthrough involved uncovering the murky past of the incumbent President, catapulting him to unprecedented fame. However, amidst the fallout from this revelation, he found himself at odds with the Editor-in-Chief and ultimately chose to depart from the newspaper of his own volition.

George, known as "The Conscience of the Town," served as the esteemed editor-in-chief of The Mothersday Times, earning the trust and respect of the locals. His wife, Maria, hailed from a lineage of devout Protestants deeply rooted in the town's history. Their serendipitous meeting began with a simple carnation, a symbol that would weave through the tapestry of their lives.

Arriving in town in response to a job listing at the local newspaper, George was greeted by the captivating sight of Maria sketching amidst a bed of carnations on the outskirts. Enchanted by her artistry, he found himself drawn to her from the very start. That same day, George assumed the role of editor-in-chief at The Mothersday Times and embarked on a new venture: crafting a serialized novel chronicling the town's journey from its founding to the present day.

The inaugural illustration of the novel featured a solitary carnation, crafted by the talented hands of Maria herself. Alongside George's compelling articles on local events, the serialization captivated readers, casting the townsfolk as heroes in their own narrative, evoking laughter and tears alike. Their home became a hub of lively discussion, fueled by the stories unfolding in the pages of the newspaper.

In due course, George and Maria exchanged vows in the presence of their cherished community, sealing their union with the town's blessing. A cherished tradition took root in their household, with Maria serenading her loved ones with song and piano after dinner, fostering warmth and harmony.

In the sun-drenched garden, Maria endeared herself to the town's housewives, gathering them for communal patchwork sessions. This longstanding tradition produced beautiful bedcovers and tablecloths, later sold at the newspaper company bazaar to benefit those in need, embodying the town's ethos of maternal love and generosity.

In the tranquil embrace of their town, unsettling occurrences began to unfold when a dark shadow descended upon the distant summit of Holy Loly Mountain. Room ornaments were inexplicably sent flying, and individuals who vanished without a trace would reappear the following morning with no memory of their ordeal. A group of elementary school students, venturing near the mountain, vanished as well, causing widespread panic. Yet, to everyone's bewilderment, they returned unharmed the next day, their smiles masking the inexplicable events that had transpired.

Driven by his innate curiosity, George delved into investigating these baffling incidents. However, his efforts were stymied by the collective amnesia of those involved, leaving him with scant leads.

On the evening his article detailing the enigmatic occurrences was published, both George and Maria vanished from the town, leaving behind a community engulfed in shock and grief. Their disappearance spurred fervent prayers from the townsfolk, a testament to the unwavering faith they held in the couple.

It is speculated that the couple may have been abducted by a race associated with Giygas, an extraterrestrial encounter that led to their nurturing of the alien child. Maria's soothing lullabies, her Eight Melodies, likely played a pivotal role in calming the alien child, while George may have inadvertently discovered the extraterrestrial's psychic abilities. However, George's eventual betrayal led to his escape back to Earth, leaving Maria behind in the alien realm.

Approximately two years later, George returned to his home alone, bearing the visible marks of his ordeal — his once-dark hair now turned white, and his lips sealed shut, harboring secrets untold. Despite the inquiries of concerned friends, George remained reticent about his whereabouts and the fate of Maria, casting a pall of melancholy over his interactions.

Retreating from his former life at the newspaper publisher, George immersed himself in the study of psychic powers, becoming a recluse within the confines of his home. As time passed, the fervor of rumors surrounding George dwindled, yet the memory of Maria's absence lingered as an indelible mark upon the hearts of the townsfolk.

As if guided by an unseen force, George possessed foreknowledge of an impending attack by Giygas's race upon Earth, along with the intervention of a young hero named Ninten. Utilizing his final years, George clandestinely constructed a robot, EVE, within a laboratory hidden beneath the depths of Mt. Itoi's lake. The origins of his expertise in robotics remain shrouded in mystery, yet his familiarity with alien technology and PSI likely played a pivotal role in this endeavor.

It remains uncertain whether George continued to raise his children on Earth, though evidence suggests he left behind a diary and knowledge pertaining to the alien threat. Mysteriously, PSI phenomena began to manifest worldwide, from Snowman to Youngtown, Eagleland to the Kingdom of Dalaam.

At George's gravesite, his soul imparts the eighth melody to Ninten and his companions, expressing gratitude for their journey.

As the dawn of the first Earth invasion looms, Maria and George's home is rebuilt, now inhabited by their great-grandson, his mother, and twin sisters. They carry on the legacy of peace that once defined Mother's Day.

The tradition of patchwork endures, passed down to the boy's mother, while the cherished carnation bed lovingly tended by Maria continues to bloom in vibrant green. Yet, in 1988, the ominous black cloud reappears atop Holy Loly, casting a shadow over the once-tranquil town, signaling a drastic change on the horizon.
