~ Lobrano as he shoots Phil Cerreta. |
George Lobrano is the secondary antagonist of the Law & Order episode "Prince of Darkness". He is an arms trafficker who sells guns to a Colombian drug cartel, and who shoots and wounds NYPD Sergeant Phil Cerreta.
He was portrayed by the late Mark Margolis, who also portrayed Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Felix Faust in Constantine, Alberto the Shadow in Scarface, and Antonio Nappa in Oz.
Overview[]
Lobrano is one of the top weapons dealers to the Colombian drug cartel for which Javier Lariano Gaitan works as an assassin; he has sold weapons to Gaitan personally many times. He is jittery and paranoid, and often suspects his customers of trying to cheat him or turn him in to law enforcement.
In "Prince of Darkness"[]
After Gaitan uses one of Lobrano's guns to kill low-level cartel member Manuel Ortega and his wife Natalie, NYPD Homicide Sergeant Phil Cerreta and Detective Mike Logan identify the weapon he used as similar to that used in several cartel-linked shootings. Further investigation reveals that Lobrano is the cartel's go-to arms trafficker.
Ceretta, posing as a criminal linked to the cartel, sets up a meeting with Lobrano, ostensibly to buy a rifle, in order to arrest him. During the meeting, however, Lobrano becomes agitated, accuses Cerreta of trying to cheat him, and shoots him twice in the chest. Logan arrests him for the attempted murder of police officer. Cerreta survives, but he is forced to retire as a detective and take an administrative job because of the physical trauma.
Executive Assistant District Attorney Ben Stone and Assistant District Attorney Paul Robinette make a deal with Lobrano to testify against Gaitan in return for a reduced sentence and police protection. Lobrano's testimony helps Stone and Robinette convict Gaitan of killing the Ortegas, but Gaitan is murdered by a cartel assassin named Cristobal as he leaves the courtroom. After the assassin disappears, Lobrano tells Stone and Robinette that he had sold Cristobal a few weapons and offers to help them find him in return for an even further reduced sentence. Before he can testify, however, another cartel assassin slits his throat in the prison yard.
