George Mallardy is the overarching antagonist of the episode "The Impossible Summit of Mt. Neverrest" of the DuckTales reboot. He was an arrogant mountain climber who was hired by Scrooge McDuck and later nearly killed him.
Biography[]
Before meeting Scrooge McDuck, George Mallardy was already a famous mountaineer, having earned the title of "Greatest Mountaineer of the 20th Century".
75 years before the episode, Scrooge McDuck made his first million, and he wanted to celebrate the occasion by climbing to the very top of Mt. Neverrest, which no-one had ever accomplished. Thus, he hired George Mallardy to be his guide; though it seemed Mallardy desired to climb the mountain for his own reasons. During the trek up the mountain, Mallardy constantly mocked the young Scrooge for having brought so many supplies due to his own insecurity and inexperience. While climbing up a ledge, Mallardy ended up hanging by his own pick-ax with Scrooge hanging from his rope. Mallardy ordered McDuck to lighten his load by cutting away some supplies strapped to him, but McDuck refused as he was afraid to lose emergency backup supplies and money. Losing his patience, Mallardy officially severed his ties with his employer by literally severing the rope with a knife. Mallardy heartlessly laughed as Scrooge plummeted to his supposed doom.
After leaving Scrooge for dead, George Mallardy then continued climbing the mountain, until he would stop to rest in a cave. Unfortunately, Mallardy would get stuck in the cave, as he would enter and exit through secret portals located throughout the mountain, always sending him back to where he was. Mallardy would draw some drawings on the cave, curse McDuck in writing, and wear a shirt titled "I Didn't Survive Mount Neverrest", before presumably dying of starvation or dehydration. Scrooge McDuck, surviving the fall, would later hike up the mountain 75 years later on the same day with his kids, explaining how he was the "Neverrest Ninny" and take the title as the farthest person to climb up the mountain.
