Biography[]

Mean Creek[]

The film begins with George at school filming himself playing basketball, while he plays, a boy named Sam sees George's camera on the ground and picks it up. George sees the kid doing this and gets angry, he assaults Sam in front of the whole school, threatening to kill him if he ever touched his camera again. This leads Sam to tell his older brother, Rocky. Rocky tells it to his best friends, Marty and Clyde, they all are plotting revenge against George.

The next day George is invited by the group to take a boat ride to celebrate Sam's birthday (although it really isn't his birthday) and says to him that he shouldn't tell his mom where he's going, George goes with them for the ride, he presents Sam with a water gun. Throughout the ride, George awkwardly tries to fit in with the group, but the boys make rude and offensive comments. George reveals that he suffers from dyslexia and the group discovers the bully's gentle side.

Rocky, Clyde, Sam and Millie want to put an end to the revenge plan, however Marty refuses to do so. On the boat, Marty suggests that everyone play real or dare (to exact revenge for leaving George naked and alone), Milie says that this kind of game always ends up hurting people's feelings, but George naively accepts it. In the game, George discovers the whole plan when Marty reveals, Sam apologizes, but George refuses to accept it, he becomes enraged and begins to offend Sam, Milie, Clyde including Marty himself, he mentions the suicide of Marty's father to taunt him and Marty gets angry and tries to assault George. George keeps repeating about Marty's father, Rocky gets angry and accidentally pushes him into the lake.

It turns out that George can't swim and starts drowning in the lake while the others watch, the camera ends up hitting George's head and he unconsciously passes out. Rocky saves him too late. The gang takes George's dead body to the surface of the creek, they try to revive George but to no avail, and then they decide to tell the police but Marty refuses to go and tell the truth claiming he doesn't want to be raped in prison and leaves the gang.

Sam, Milie, Rocky, and Clyde go to George's house and tell his mother the whole truth, she tearfully calls the police and investigations begin, George's body is found and his funeral is held. In the final scene, a video on George's camera is shown on the police station's television, George says a little bit about him and his thoughts and that he wants someone to one day find this and know who he really is.

Trivia[]
