Georgi Potemkin is a minor antagonist in the original G.I. Joe series, appearing in the episode "The Great Alaskan Land Rush", in which he illegally seizes ownership of Alaska on behalf of COBRA.
History[]
Georgi Potemkin was a used car salesman in New Jersey for 30 years. He allied himself with COBRA afterwards. With aid from COBRA, Potemkin took control of Alaska due to his possession of the Great Seal of Alaska, usurping the governor. Soon, "Honest Georgi", as he called himself, declared Alaska his own land of "Georgiland", and ordered all citizens of Alaska to move away, threatening to kick them out if they didn't. In his spare time, he called Neiman Marcus to bring him several luxury items.
However, the seal that Potemkin owned was actually fake. G.I. Joe and the Oktober Guard set out to find the real seal in the Arctic. The Great Seal of Alaska was briefly stolen by COBRA, but G.I. Joe eventually retrieved it and helped American regain ownership of Alaska. When the Joes brought the seal to Alaska, Potemkin's former COBRA allies Tomax & Xamot abandoned him. Potemkin was ousted shortly after.
