~ Lupin reveals to Gerald that Hitler has been dead the whole time and was never alive in the first place. |
Gerald, in all basis, is a Nazi loyalist, who seeks to restore the Third Riech and has obsession on his Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. He was part of the Pseudoscientific research organization, Ahnenerbe, and is extremly eager to find anything to help his goal of restoring the Riech. Throughout the movie, he works with a archeologist named Lambert to find an ancient artifact known as the eclipse but need to find Bresson's Dairy to achieve their goals. Despite working with the archeologist, Gerald seems to have a low opinion on Lambert and tends to berate him for failing while judging his competence. He even mocks him about it, which annoys Lambert and frustrates him even further.
He is shown many times of being an incredibly violent individual, who cares little for the lives of others. This is shown when he told Lambert to kill Laetitia for finding out what their up to and that they have no use for her anymore. He even attempt to kill her by throwing her unconcious body out of the plane if Lambert does not do what he says. He also seems to care little of his men as he allowed them to die for his needs to find the eclipse and does not even acknowledge their efforts in helping him, which shows how careless he is. Gerald is extremly passoniate on the idea that Adolf Hitler is alive and well in Brazil by using a single photo as proof but shows no skepticism if its actually Hitler or, as it turns out, a fake. When the Riech is restored with the eclipse in his hands, Gerald wants to place Hitler as the leader of the world as he did all of this for him.
Gerald was extremly excited when he found that Hitler is "alive" and is proud of his accomplishments. He gave the eclipse to him until he found out Lupin tricked him by disguising himself as Hitler in order to get to the artifact. Gerald becomes so upset he tries to kill Lupin for supposly mocking the Fuhrer and still delusionally believes that the fake photo of Hitler is real. In the end, he dies as a foolish and arrogant nazi, who thinks can control an ancient artifact to restore a dead regime.
