Gerald Pyke is the secondary antagonist antagonist of the 2008 British crime film The Bank Job.
He is portrayed by actor Don Gallagher.
Biography[]
Gerald Pyke is a senior corrupt police detective colonel in London who is secretly under the payroll of local crime boss Lew Vogel, thus being involved in the latter's collusion with notorious gang lord Michael X in the process.
At somepoint, Pyke and his personal subordinate Nick Barton are summoned by Vogel to hunt down a crew of seasoned criminals led by British car salesman Terry Leather after they pull off a successful heist at the Baker Street Bank - which in doing so leads to the crew unwittingly seizing possession of incriminating photos regarding Vogel and Michael X's pornography activities. Because of this, Pyke's corruption is also put at risk as a result of this.
After Vogel identifies one of Terry's associates Dave Shilling as among those part of the robbery, Pyke is sent to kidnap Dave under the guise of taking him to the police station for questioning. He then watches as Vogel interrogates Dave about the whereabouts of the photos, shortly before Nick then proceeds to torture Dave in front of the others. Soon enough, Pyke begins to grow paranoid as the situation spirals out of control as his non-corrupt rival policeman Roy Given and the M15 begin prying on his corrupt activities. He and Nick later kidnap Terry's colleague Eddie Burton after finding out that he was part of the robbery as well. When Vogel is unable to force Terry to get Eddie to reveal the whereabouts of the incriminating photos, Pyke - at Vogel's orders - promptly executes Dave with a gunshot.
Later on, Terry arranges for Vogel and his corrupt police conspirators to meet him at Paddington for a bargain exchange - the photos for Vogel if Terry gets Eddie. When they arrive, Pyke has Nick wait in the car while he and Vogel take Eddie to meet up with Terry at the platform. But then Pyke recognizes M15 agents and, telling Vogel this, attempts to retreat away from the station. However, Terry catches up to Vogel and beats him up as Pyke cowardly watches. Pyke instantly gets Nick to kill Terry, but in the end Terry overpowers Nick and begins to attack Pyke after Eddie identifies Pyke as Dave's killer.
In that moment, the police arrive and Pyke has them arrest Terry and Eddie under the guise that they were assaulting him; he also identifies them as the robbers and makes no attempt to help Vogel when Given arrests him in front of everyone. It then seems as though as Pyke is going to get away scot-free when M15 agents show up and reveal to Given about the evidence that Terry has given them - Vogel's book of police officers working under his payroll, including Pyke and Nick respectively. With his corruption exposed, Pyke can do nothing but react in horror as Given has him arrested; Pyke unsuccessfully tries to implicate Terry and his cohorts when Given lets them go, whereas Pyke along with Nick are both taken into police custody.
