Well hello, redundant copy. You've cost us quite a lot of time.
~ Gerard mocking Aloy.
Ah. Now we know who's been causing all the fuss... ...Tilda's little pet. [...] This is pointless. You can't hurt us. Face it - you're worms that oozed through the cracks into our basement. [...] But I might just spare you if you give up Tilda. I think it's safe to say she's forfeited her share of our operation - permanently. [...] No? Nothing? Fine. All right people - light em up!
~ Gerard mocking Aloy and her team.

Gerard Bieri is the secondary antagonist of the 2022 action role-playing game Horizon Forbidden West. One of the few select survivors of the Faro Plague that decimated life on Earth, he became a leading figure of Far Zenith, an elitist consortium who pioneered revolutionary technologies in the field of immortality.

Nearly a thousand years later, he, Tilda, and Erik would return back on Earth to salvage a backup of GAIA, the terraforming system, and the rest of its subordinate functions by using Beta, another of Elisabet Sobeck's clones, before fleeing the planet and use it terraform another planet to escape from Nemesis's relentless pursuit. However, Gerard and his subordinates' plans are met with stiff resistance from the Nora Huntress Aloy and her allies, before he was promptly killed by Tilda near the end of the game in the Far Zenith's base.

He was voiced and motion-captured by Dan Donohue, who also played Warden Eternal in Halo 5: Guardians. Imran Zakhaev in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Hermann Freisinger in Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Appearance[]

Gerard is a Caucasian middle-aged man, who has brown eyes and a bald head. He wears a dark-green futuristic clothing with a golden neck-length collar. His top also has golden decorations, as well as a red design within its sleeve. From two of his hands are what seemed to be black bands attached, which is used to conjure weapons including energy cannons.

Much like all Far Zenith members, his clothing glows purple, due to the energy shields being conjured around him.

Despite his appearance, however, he is revealed to be immortal, being one of the original members of Far Zenith, due to extensive cellular treatments and technological implants, when Beta revealed to Aloy more about their origins.

Personality[]

Gerard is cold, conceited, and haughty. He treats the tribals of the New Earth with contempt, calling them "bugs" or "worms," and he will kill them with great savagery if they get in the way. But instead of Erik's joyous sadism, his attitude is one of cold calculation. Though he never imagined that even Tilda could outsmart him, he views himself as a sophisticated patrician who can keep everything under control and wear a polished grin.

Biography[]

Old World[]

As the leader of the biggest financial conglomerate in the Old World, Gerard Bieri interacted with almost all of the world's leading businesses. Gerard amassed some of the greatest fortune in the world and used it to acquire greater authority and status. Gerard was the wealthiest member of Far Zenith at the time of Earth's destruction by the Faro Plague, and he accompanied them when they fled to the Sirius system. Gerard became the head of Far Zenith, establishing himself as cold and calculating.

Horizon Forbidden West[]

Gerard, along with Tilda and Erik, Far Zenith's military commander, would later return to Earth to obtain a GAIA backup, but it would require them to create a clone of Elisabet Sobeck, known as Beta, in the Odyssey ship. From there, Gerard would later spot Aloy hiding inside LATOPOLIS, a Faro-owned cyberwarfare testing ground, a testing area for the HADES subordinate function and a storage of GAIA backups, calling her a "redundancy", due to Aloy being another of Sobeck's clones, and orders Erik to kill her on the spot.

After Erik failed to kill Aloy in the Proving Lab, he, Tilda, and Gerard would later encounter Aloy, Beta, Zo, and Varl inside Cauldron GEMINI, with both Aloy and Beta excising every malicious code inside HEPHAESTUS and beginning merge with GAIA. Interrupting their process, Gerard would watch Erik killing Varl, as well as taking Beta, HEPHAESTUS, and GAIA away. But Tilda's last-minute betrayal severely angered him.

During the attack of the Far Zenith base, Gerard is later seen with Erik and the rest of the surviving Far Zenith members. Gerard would taunt Aloy's allies, telling them that they are "worms", presumably referring to Aloy's interference with the Zenith's plans. When Sylens throws an improvised EMP grenade with Far Zenith technology on it, his shield was later disabled, forcing him to flee and reach the base's launch site to escape Earth.

However, in spite of his efforts, Tilda would later kill him, ending his chances of escape.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Advanced Weaponry: Gerard, along with the rest of Far Zeniths, possesses advanced weaponry, which is much more advanced than all forms of rudimentary weaponry seen in the tribal Earth. He is able to conjure a golden energy cannon coming from his hand. He is also impervious to physical attacks, due to the energy shield that surrounds him.
  • Immortality: Due to his cellular treatments and technological implants Gerard is basically immortal as he has lived for over a thousand years after he escaped from the Faro Plague.
  • Leadership: Gerard leads the Zeniths on their goal and does with efficiency with his operations across the globe, despite the other Far Zenith members finding him incredibly loathsome due to his arrogance and his ego.
