Gerard Garner is a minor antagonist of the Chicago P.D. episode "Hit Me".
He was portrayed by Malcom Banks.
Background[]
A small-time thief, he earned a sheet for his crimes. He later became affiliated with fellow criminal Bug, but he secretly felt the latter was unhinged. At some point, Bug began a plan to masquerade as cops and rob casino winners of their loot. He recruited Garner to help in the acts, supplying him with a car, uniform, and badges to have him really sell it.
Hit Me[]
When casino winner Kristie Bradford was attacked and robbed by Bug, she reported her incident and CPD Intelligence investigated when hearing that she was attacked by a cop. Garner was notified by Bug's spotter Franklin Haynes of a recent casino winner. He unknowingly pulled over Det. Erin Lindsay, telling her she was speeding and asking her for her money and threatening her when she protested. After she gave him the money, he started to leave but was surrounded by real CPD who set up a sting to catch corrupt cops. While arrested by Det. Antonio Dawson, he was warned that IA were going to make sure he pays.
When brought in, he was interviewed by Dawson and Sgt. Hank Voight, saying nothing before demanding a lawyer. However, it was soon discovered he wasn't a real cop and Bradford told Intelligence that Garner wasn't her attacker, so they ran his fingerprints through the system and discover his real identity, before coming up with an idea. Garner continued to sit in the interrogation room, as Voight and Dawson return and reveal they are aware of his true name: Gerard Garner, and he reminds them that he asked for a lawyer. However, Voight says he came to offer a deal as he knows Garner is running with a crew and that he hadn't really harmed anyone, before Dawson brings up the witness who got attacked and shows pictures of an assaulted and bloodied Kristie Bradford. They say the perp who did that is from the same crew as him and they want a name. Garner is disgusted by the pictures, before Voight tells him if he gives up his conspirators, he walks. Upon hearing that, Garner questions this and they state he's free to go when they make an arrest. Pondering this, Garner looks at the pictures again but Voight puts a countdown on the deal and Garner quickly reveals it was his friend Bug who he described as crazy and states he likely attacked Bradford. Dawson asks for Bug's real name and Garner answers its Clayton Howard who for all he knows is in charge. As Dawson goes to run the name, Garner reveals to Voight that Bug has a lookout in the casino to find winners who become targets but reveals he never met him and he's unaware of any other members in the crew.
Intelligence was soon able to narrow down Bug's history, arrest him and discover that the true mastermind of the fake cop robbery crew was Det. Martin Watts. They also noted Garner was just a grunt who had no part in the grand plan. Presumably, Garner was released as per the agreement.
