Gerard Sullivan, also known as Sully is the deuteragonist of the Top Boy series, serving as the deuteragonist in Season 1-4 and the main antagonist in Season 5.
Sully is the co-leader of Summerhouse and the best friend of Dushane Hill and Dris Wright. He is also the father of Natasha Sullivan.
He is portrayed by grime MC, Kano.
Biography[]
Season 1[]
Sully is Dushane's right hand man in Summerhouse, when rival gang member of London Fields, the leader Kamale and Ninja steal the drugs from them, Sully and Dushane try to find Kamale. They come up with a plan to kidnap Kamale's cousin Shaun. Which goes horribly wrong as Sully accidentally kills Shaun.
Later with the help of Michael, Sully and Dushane bring Dris along and they track down Kamale and kidnap him. Before killing Kamale, he tells them where the stolen drugs are at Trust Tyres where Lee Greene is, Dris then kills Kamale and Sully and Dushane kill Lee Greene and retrieve the stolen drugs.
Sully kills Leon who was defending Ra'Nell when Sully and Dris went to rob the cannabis that Ra'Nell intended to sell to Dushane. As Sully killed Leon with the same used to kill Kamale and Lee this forces Dushane to cover his crimes by killing Bobby Raikes to make it look like a suicide. Dushane then cuts Sully off the gang and has Dris as his 2nd in command.
Season 2[]
Sully is hanging out with his new friend Mike who is a major criminal as they start a rival with Dushane and join forces with Kamale's 2 lieutenants who now run the fields Ninja and Trevor.
Sully meets a young child called Jason, who he takes a shine to. Sully, Dushane and Dris are later arrested for Kamale's murder but released on bail.
Sully and Mike are offered a contract killing Sully's cousin, Jermaine. They kidnap Jermaine intead, which this angers Jermaine's brother, Rafe. Sully uses Jason to go to Dushane and ask for help to defuse the situation. As a part of the deal Sully has to help him steal back drugs from an Albanian gang. Dushane convinces Rafe to let Sully live as long as he frees Jermaine, but Sully is furious when Rafe kills Mike, as Dushane didn't include him in the deal.
He still helps Dushane get his drugs back, before telling him they're done. Sully then concentrates on his life and having a father figure supporting Jason.
Season 3[]
Seven years later Sully is first seen in the 2nd episode "Building Bridges". Sully is first seen in prison, Modie a former leader of the London Fields gang is also in the same prison with Sully and the two don't happen to get along due to Sully's Disliking to Modie. However, Modie tries everything he can to stop Sully from getting released from prison. Sully gets his own back on Modie by scalding him in his face where his eyesight starts getting really bad. On his release day, Sully has Jason who is an old friend and a son figure waiting outside the prison gates for him, they are seen when Sully is watching his daughter Tash in the school playground, then they are sat in the old kebab shop in Summerhouse, Jason told Sully that his mother passed away and Jason confesses to Sully that he was using drugs which he wasn't happy about. Dushane catches up with Sully and tries to get him back to work with him and be partners again but Sully refuses it. Sully and Jason travel to Ramsgate to make some money so they are waiting in Ramsgate beach and then they meet up with an old friend Gem Mustapha a key character in Top Boy Season 1. Gem takes them to a house with a lot of immigrants, they are regularly racially abused, they also made racial comments to Sully and Jason. Sully makes a promise to Jason when they return to London which takes Jason to watch his favourite football team Arsenal. They get the money, Sully cuts Gem some money and Gem makes his own way. During the night the arson attack in the house changes everything, Sully escapes the house fire, Jason struggles to get out, he burns to death and Sully is grieving badly over it. Sully returns back to London. Sully goes to Dris's flat and points a gun at Dushane and Dris to tell Dushane that he wants to partner up with him. Dushane and Sully meet up with Haze to do the pickup and Sully and Dushane get back on top again.
Sully's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child Taylor meet up with Sully about getting Sully to get to know Tash and also get to know Paul who is Taylor's new partner. After Taylor speaks with Sully, his estranged cousin walks over, he tells Sully that he is still not over the kidnapping, Sully tells Jermaine to move on and that it was 5 years ago, the two then shake hands and walk away. Sully, however, had the opportunity to bond with his daughter, he reads her favourite book to her.
Sully attends Jason's funeral and finds some peace at his funeral, however it doesn't last long and Sully gets ambushed by Jermaine and Modie's cousin Layton as he leaves. Sully survives the ambush but suspects there is a snitch. Meanwhile, with Dushane and Sully back on top with Summerhouse, the ZTs lead by Jamie Tovell a young ruthless leader decides to go to war with Summerhouse. Sully and Dushane kidnap Lizzie and ask her to supply to them and kill Jamie. Sully and Dushane go over to Haze, Dushane kills Haze in his car while Sully looks out to see if no one is coming.
It didn't go well as Sully's suspicions were confirmed when Dushane and Sully are both shot up, they survive it but they kill both of their 2 henchmen, Modie escaped and he and Jermaine come to kill Sully and Dushane but fail. The information was given by Dris a long time friend of Sully and Dushane who betrayed them both.
Dushane and Sully suspect Dris and hatch a plan to set him up by giving him their location and waiting for the ZTs to arrive. Jamie and his crew get information off Dris and go over there to kill Sully and Dushane but they are not there as they knew Dris was the snake.
Sully comes over to Dris' flat he takes him out of his flat and takes him to a rooftop. Jaq is up there, Sully tells her to leave, Sully points his gun at Dris, Dris says "if you're gonna, do do it fam" and Sully fires the gun.
With Jamie in prison after setting up his brothers knowing Jamie would take the rap for it, Dushane is back on top again. Sully comes back to see Dushane, they meet outside Dushane's girlfriend Shelley's flat. Sully is disappointed and he says to Dushane "Just because we didn't lose doesn't mean we won" and he walks off.
Season 4[]
Sully suffers to PTSD through the death of Jason and feeling his guilt of killing Dris. Sully distances himself from Dushane and goes and live on a canal boat. Sully is angry when he finds out Dushane now has Jamie under his wing after his prison release.
Sully's exile comes to an end when his niece Pebbles asks for help. Sully visits Cypress and Khadeem in Peckham to talk about how to get their drugs back in one condition not to come after Pebbles, Sully is then kidnapped and tortured by the gang later. When the Peckham gang post it on social media, it gets the attention to Summerhouse and London Fields crew which then makes way to Dushane. Dushane rounds up Summerhouse and Fields gang to rescue Sully from the gang.
Sully comes back in the game and comes to Spain to help out Jamie with a deal. Sully and Jamie meet up with Emilio and meet Juan el Bueno. Sully doesn't trust Jamie, especially when Juan el Bueno hints that Jamie is going behind Summerhouse's back. Sully instantly kills Juan's men while Emilio executes Juan el Bueno.
With the deal sorted, Dushane tells Sully he wants to retire after Jamie's loyalty to Dushane by killing Kit and says Jamie is part of their retirment plan and wants to hand the top boy to Jamie when going legit and Sully agrees. Moments later Sully goes to Jamie's flat and shoots him in cold blood in front of Stefan before telling him to kill himself.
Season 5[]
After killing Jamie, Sully quickly exits the building and gets in his car and leaves.
He goes to the restaurant where Dushane is having dinner with Shelly, and meets him in the bathroom. Dushane already knows what he just did. He forces Dushane off the roads and Dushane only agrees as long as Sully pays him his money.
Sully self appoints himself as the new Summerhouse leader. The Irish mob muscles into the Summerhouse operation and kills Chaash and Mounir. Sully and Junior visit Bill about Jonny and Tadgh and come to the stable to find Jonny but Jonny gets Dotz shot with Bill's help. Sully doesn't trust them, but is forced to work with them as they're his only supply.
Sully hatches a plan to take out Jonny and Tadgh, taking their drugs for Summerhouse. Sully brings Dushane in the plan to kill Jonny and Tadgh at the old people's home where Tadgh's dad's birthday party is set. Sully kills Jonny and Tadgh. Dushane and Sully take their stashed drugs.
The plan worked but Jaq who was one of Sully's lieutenant then decides to steal the drugs from Sully. Kieron knew about but then double crosses by telling him it was Si which then Kieron, Sully and Junior confront Si and Sully violates him infront of his gang. Jaq then tries to make things right with Sully and tells him she will bring the drugs back to him on one condition to not go after her, Becks or her nephew. Sully then gets his 2nd in command Junior to kill Kieron.
Sully waits for Jaq but discovers Dushane robbed the drugs off Jaq. Sully tells Jaq that she is not getting no pass like Kieron didn't. Sully then calls up Junior as they chase down Dushane. Sully and Junior fight off Isaac's as one of them also kills Junior. Sully catches up to Dushane and fatally shoots him. After Dushane has bled out and died.
The next morning Sully sees Tash one last time. Sully then walks over past the park and is confronted by Stefan, with Stefan still grieving about his brother, Sully then tells Stefan that he is OK with him shooting him and then Stefan tells him he is not worth as he sees Sully is numb from his years of dealing and leaves him with his hollow victory. As Sully entered his car, an anonymous shooter passed the drivers window of Sully’s car and shot him in the head, ending Sully’s life.
Personality[]
Sully is a violent and impulsive character, with a complex backstory that drives his ruthless behaviour, often acting as the "muscle" within the gang, readily resorting to violence when necessary, but also showing moments of vulnerability and a desire for something more than the street life; he is considered one of the most dangerous and unpredictable characters in the series.
