Geum Hyeok-Soo, real name Bong-Min, is the main antagonist of the 2023 Korean Crime Drama, A Bloody Lucky Day. He is a mentally-ill serial killer who kill random people out of the desire to feel alive.
He is the nemesis of taxi driver Oh Taek, drama student Yoon Se-Na, farm lady Hwang Soon-kyu and police detective Kim Joong-Min as he responsible for the death of Soon-kyu and Joong-Min's sons.
He is portrayed by Ahn Yeon-seok who played the young Lee Woo-jin in Oldboy
Biography[]
Bong-Min and Yoon Se-Na met each other in high school and they wrote a mystery novel called Soulmate together. As they became a couple, Bong-Min revealed that he was psychopath by brutally killing Se-na's pet cat and presented the corpse to her in a present box.
Bong-Min eventually got into a bus accident, causing his amygdala, which is the section of the brain that governs fear and threat, to be damaged. In the hospital, he met a psychopathic doctor named Geum Hyeok-Soo and they became a duo of serial killers.
After a while, he took over Hyeok-Soo's identity and decided to run away before the polices got to him.
A Bloody Lucky Day[]
Oh Taek used to be a factory manager but was framed by his junior manager in an investment scheme went wrong. This caused him to spend sometime in jail. After getting out, he becomes a workaholic taxi driver who works like hell to pay off his debt and provide for his estranged daughter. One day, he stumps upon Hyeok-Soo who promises him a big pay day for driving him to a long journey from Seoul to the city Mokpo. Greedy for the money to quickly pay off his debt, Oh Taek blackmails his co-worker to take over his shift by threatening to tell the owner of the taxi company about his gambling problem.
Meanwhile, Hwang Soon-kyu came into contact with her son's friend about the clue of the killer but he failed to show up and she finds out that he was hospitalized after being set on fire. At the hospital, she stumped upon Hyeok-Soo who disguised as doctor to check on his victim. Unable to prove the intention to harm his son's friend to the police and hospital staffs, she decides to break in Hyeok-Soo's house instead. At the house, she finds his son photos and finally convinces that Hyeok-Soo is her son's murderer. She then purchases a revolver from a black market dealer and sets course to Mokpo to pursue Hyeok-Soo.
After taking Hyeok-Soo in his taxi, the journey goes smoothly until Hyeok-Soo starts confessing his crimes and his disturb mindset, making Oh Taek to panic and fear for his life. Oh Taek convinces that Hyeok-Soo is bluffing but he is adamant that he is telling the truth and reveals a finger cut off from a unruly driver that cut ahead of of Oh Taek's taxi earlier during the journey. Terrified, Oh Taek tries to refund the huge fare Hyeok-Soo gave him and even surrendering his taxi, in exchange for Hyeok-Soo to let him go but Hyeok-Soo refuses. As they continue the journey, Oh Taek remembers that there is an emergency button in the taxi to active distress signal so he presses it to signal the nearby car for help. However, Hyeok-Soo kills one passenger while mortally injuring the other passenger who come to help him and forces Oh Taek to put the two bodies in his taxi but not before clipping his finger nail brutally with a wire cutter to punish Oh Taek. As Oh Taek's driving becomes unstable due to fear and injuries, a group of patrol cops stop the taxi but they are called out for a car accident nearby before they could search the trunk of the taxi that contains the two bodies.
After Hyeok-Soo provokes Oh Taek by mocking his inability to properly care for his family, Oh Taek accelerates the taxi at the toll booth, causing the taxi to be flipped to the side of the highway. Oh Taek tries to escape but Hyeok-Soo forces him to kill the surviving victim in a car trunk by threatening to strangle him to dead. As Hyeok-Soo forces him to carry the body of the dead victim, Oh Taek snaps after thinking back of how his despicable junior tricked him and attacks him with an axe he takes from the trunk of the taxi and runs away to an abandoned building. Hyeok-Soo chases Oh Taek to the building but Oh Taek escapes his pursuits.
At the same time, Soon-kyu arrives at the crash site of the taxi and tries to save the surviving victim but he succumbs to the injuries. On the other side, detective Kim Joong-Min whose son is also killed by Hyeok-Soo is also on the hunt toward Hyeok-Soo. Oh Taek eventually manages to contact the police to come to rescue him and he meets Joong-Min and provides him about the information of Hyeok-Soo. However, Hyeok-Soo calls Oh Taek and threatens to murder his daughter if he does not comply with his commands as he had kidnapped Oh Taek's daughter beforehand. Soon-kyu encounters Oh Taek and persuades him to get the police to help him but he refuses, fearing the safety of his daughter. Unwilling to let a naive Oh Taek to get into Hyeok-Soo's trap, she demands him to take her with him as she has a gun to take down Hyeok-Soo if necessary but the cowardly Oh Taek decides to ditch her in the middle of the road.
Oh Taek comes a meeting point, which is a house of a policemen and Hyeok-Soo heartlessly kills the entire family. Having had enough with having to witness another innocent death, Oh Taek furiously attacks Hyeok-Soo but Hyeok-Soo talks him out about his daughter safety to stop him. Oh Taek is then forced to drive Hyeok-Soo to Mokpo so Hyeok-Soo can escape to China. On the way, he then further elaborates that he actually dated Oh Taek's daughter until she found out about his killing spree, causing him to kidnap her and immolating Soon-kyu's son friend to cover his tracks after the boy was asked by Oh Taek's daughter to tail him. Joong-Min calls Oh Taek to keep persuade him to cooperate with the polices to bring down Hyeok-Soo by providing them the location of the port where Hyeok-Soo will take the smuggling boat to China in exchange he will help Oh Teak rescues his daughter once Hyeok-Soo spills out her location. Oh Taek decides to trust Joong-Min and deliberately keep his phone connects to Joong-Min's call to let Joong-Min and the police to eavesdrop the conversation between Oh Taek and Hyeok-Soo. Oh Taek makes Hyeok-Soo to reveal the location of his daughter and asking more questions related to his daughter so the Joong-Min and the police can lay down the ambush at the Mokpo port and rescue Oh Taek's daughter. However, Hyeok-Soo is informed by the smuggler that the police are on their ways to the port, making him suspicious. Eventually, he finds out that Oh Taek's action in collaboration with the polices.
Hyeok-Soo forces Oh Taek to meet a gang boss who specializes in smuggling to smuggle Hyeok-Soo out of the country. After a intense conversation, Oh Taek manages to convince the gang boss to arrange the smuggling. Joong-Min and the police alongside Soon-Kyu manage to dispatch the smugglers but Hyeok-Soo forces Oh Taek to get him to the port in time. Oh Taek's wife joins the police to search for her daughter and she tries to persuade Hyeok-Soo's grandmother to cooperate to no prevail. After Oh Taek drives Hyeok-Soo at the port, he demands Hyeok-Soo to reveal his daughter locations to fulfill his end of the bargain, which he complies but not before revealing that he cuts off one of his daughter's finger. Oh Taek grabs Hyeok-Soo's gun and points at him as he waits for the polices to rescue his daughter and states that Hyeok-Soo will not be allowed to leave until his daughter is rescued. Hyeok-Soo then shockingly reveals that he actually has decapitated Oh Taek's daughter long before he enlisted Hyeok-Soo's taxi service to drive him to the port. He then presents a decapitated head of Oh Taek's daughter to the shocked Oh Taek to see.
Driven to the edge, Oh Taek tries to open fire on Hyeok-Soo but the revolver turned out to be empty. Taking his chances, Hyeok-Soo stabs Oh Taek and pushes him into the river. As he is about to board the ship, Soon-Kyu comes and holds him at gunpoint. However, she is shocked to realize that Hyeok-Soo is not the same man who killed her son. Hyeok-Soo wrestles the gun from Soon-Kyu and heavily wounds her and successfully board the boat to escape to China. Soon-Kyu uses the last of her strength to rescue Oh Taek from drowning before dying from her wound but not before telling Oh Taek to avenge their children. Oh Taek's wife unable to handle the death of her daughter so she commits suicide.
Joong-Min visits a depressed Oh Taek in the hospital and reveals the criminal file of Hyeok-Soo and much to his shock, the person in file looks nothing like the Hyeok-Soo he knows so far. However, Joong-Min insists that the man whom Oh Taek drove was the same man due to Hyeok-Soo's DNA being founded near the body of Oh Taek's daughter. Later on, Oh Taek's coworker comes and reveals that Oh Taek has just won millions of Won in lottery but Oh Taek brushes it off as money is now meaningless to him as both his wife and daughter have died, leaving only his surviving son. After burying his wife and daughter, Oh Taek uses the lottery money to fund his crusade against Hyeok-Soo and goes to China to pursue him. He entrusts his son to a friend who takes him in as an apprentice mechanic.
After 4 years in China, Oh Taek has become a relentless and ruthless individual with no traces left of a shy and impotent taxi driver he used to be. One day, he meets the same smuggler gang boss he encountered four years ago and he requests payment for the intel on Hyeo-Soo. After paying the gang boss, he then reveals a huge twist is that Hyeok-Soo never actually stay on board the ship to China all the way. leading the two possibilities that Hyeo-Soo either perishes at sea or he actually still remains in Korea and the smuggling trip was a diversion all along. Realizing that he was tricked to into a wild goose chase for the last 4 years, Oh Taek decides to leave China and goes back to Korea to continue his hunt. His son pledges with his father to stop avenging his sister and mother but Oh Taek does not budge.
Gathering all the clues he has gathered, he realizes that Hyeok-Soo might lie to him about his identity a whole time. He tracks down Se-nan and she gives him a USB contains the mystery novel called Soulmate, which she and Hyeok-Soo wrote together in high school. It is revealed that Hyeok-Soo real name is Bong Min. In the novel, there is fictional company named Odin Biotechnology. Oh Taek then finds out of the company is actually real. He tracks down the company and finds out that Hyeok-Soo has married and expect a child with his wife while being a successful businessman.
Oh Taek meets up with Se-an and reveals his theories that Hyeok-Soo is actually a doctor who checked on Bong-Min after his accident that robs his ability to feel pain and fear. Oh Taek then further elaborates that Hyeok-Soo is also a psychopath like Bong-Min and there are actually two serial killers that responsible for all the killings so far. Bong-Min has been taking the identity of his partner-in-crime a whole time. Se-nan then reveals that what Bong-Min told him about his backstory is actually bogus since she was actually his victim.
After a business conference, Bong-Min encounters Oh Taek in the elevator, causing him to become panic as Oh Taek has tracked him down. Eventually, after an intense car chase, Oh Taek and Se-na manage to incapacitate Bong-Min after Se-nan crashes her car into Bong-Min's car, knocking him out. In a botanical garden, Oh Taek chops off one of Bong-Min's finger as payback for his daughter and uses a device to siphon his blood to torture him for further information. It is then revealed that Bong-Min murdered Hyeok-Soo after Hyeok-Soo fed up with Bong-min's reckless methods in killing people as he seeks more notable victims for more thrills instead of homeless people and Hyeok-Soo himself actually fell in love with Oh Taek's daughter. Hyeok-Soo was then planned to murder Bong-Min and took over his identity and created an elaborated escape plan to China to cover his track. However, unknown to Hyeok-Soo, Bong-Min had anticipated his treachery so he swapped the poisoned soda bottle at the last minutes, causing Hyeok-Soo to die instead. Using Hyeok-Soo's identity, Bong-Min used Hyeok-Sook's finger prints to tamper the crime scenes of his victims to frame all the killings he and Hyeok-Soo conducted so far to Hyeok-Soo solely. Finally, he then cooked up the entire escape plan to China involved Oh Taek, leading to the death of both his daughter and his wife just to throw everyone off his tail and makes Oh Taek to chase a dead man for the last four years instead.
As he finishes his confession, Oh Taek reveals that he has recorded his confession to show it to his wife so she can see the monster she married into. However, Bong-Min reveals that Oh Taek's son's girlfriend is pregnant and he has kidnapped his future daughter-in-law. When Bong-min tries to bargain her life to Se-na and the recording, Oh Taek brutally beats him as he does not buy in Bong-min's lies anymore after what happened to daughter. Oh Taek then furiously tries to drown Bong-Min in a well but Joong-Min comes to stop him. It is turned out that Oh Taek's son contacted Joong-Min beforehand and Joong-Min manages to gather all Oh Taek's revenge plans to come to stop him. Taking advantages of Joong-min and the police in trying to save Bong-Min, Oh Taek escapes.
Reading through Oh Taek's clues, Joong-Min confronts Bong-min in the hospital and confirms that that Bong-Min was the killer all along. Joong-Min is stopped by Bong-min's mother-in-law who is a lawyer from further interrogation. Je-na calls Joong-min and informs that Oh Taek plans to make Bong-Min to experience what is like to lose loved ones. In the hospital, Bong-min's mother-in-law reveals that she knows what kinds of person he really is, causing his wife to grow suspicious of her husband. At home, she reaches for her husband safe and discovers all the pictures of homeless people he had killed for the past 4 years.
Oh Taek breaks into the mansion and kidnaps Bong-Min's wife while at the same time, Bong-min kidnaps Se-ra and tries to incinerate her. However, after Oh Taek reveals that he has kidnapped his wife, he is then forced by Oh-Taek to release Oh Taek's future daughter-in-law in exchange for his wife. Se-na rescues Oh Taek's future daughter-in-law but during the escape both of them fall into the cliff, presumately to their doom. After the deadline is reached, Oh Taek assumes that Oh Taek has killed both Se-na and his daughter-in-law so he decides to drown Bong-min's wife in revenge.
The two man then come at an abandoned building to settle the score once and for all. After an intense fight, Oh Taek prevails and is about to finish off Bong-Min but Joong-min comes and urges Oh Taek to stop while promising that Bong-min will be sent to the gallows at the end of the day. However, as Bong-min mocks Oh Taek for the death of another of his loved one, he throws both himself and Bong-min from the top floor of the building to their doom.
However, both of them survive the fall and luckily both Se-na and Oh Taek's future daughter-in-law also survive the fall from the cliff. Furthermore, Oh Taek did not bring himself to kill Bong-Min's wife.
After throughout investigation during the search at Bong-min's mansions, Joong-Min and the police manage to gather enough evidences to finally convict Bong-min and he is then sentenced to death.
With his vengeance fulfilled and at the same time successfully avenging both Hwang Soon-kyu and her son, Oh Taek welcomes the arrival of his granddaughter and brings a closure to his losses while coming back to his old job as taxi driver again.
