Ghesmei Kysnaros was an antagonist in Warhammer 40k, specifically being the main antagonist of the Months of Shame. A Lord of the Imperium's Inquisition, Kysnaros was an extremely cruel and petty man who was responsible for the mass extermination of billions of innocent lives. As it was his belief that humanity could never find out about the forces of Hell, he ordered the deaths of any and all humans who became aware of this fact from the War for Armageddon. As the Space Wolves abhorred this and were valiant defenders of humanity, they protected the refugee ships from Kysnaros' wrath, with this in turn causing Kysnaros to order Exterminatus upon the worlds the ships simply came into contact with. This lead to open civil war between the Space Wolves Legion and Kysnaros' army.

Personality[]

Kysnaros was a completely abhorrent and cruel individual. No one is entirely sure how he came into such a position of power within The Inquisition, but once there he wielded his power as he saw fit and as a result billions of innocent lives were lost. A fanatic in the belief that mankind should never learn about the existence of demons or the Grey Knights, and that anyone who does must be purged, after the Space Wolves rescued the surviving human population of Armageddon after the first war, the sheer scale of Kysnaros' pettiness and tyranny was made clear. Seeing their actions as a deep insult, if he could not terminate the survivors, he would instead order the complete eradication of anyone and anything they came into contact with. Entire worlds were burned to ashes by his command, worlds that were oblivious and innocent to the reason for their demise. He also developed an increasingly fierce hatred for the Space Wolves and wished to bring them to heel violently, seeing himself as superior to the Astartes and having a particularly nasty grudge against Chapter Master Logan Grimnar, wanting to see the man kneel and beg for forgiveness before him. Because of this his forces began openly attacking Space Wolves on sight in their hunt for the refugees, leading to open warfare between the two. His wickedness was so bad even the Grey Knights found his actions very distasteful, coining the term the Months of Shame, and Kysnaros went so far as to threaten Exterminatus on the Space Wolves homeworld of Fenris.

What makes Kysnaros' evil stand out even in the grimdark of 40k, is that he had no Daemonic corruption or influence of any kind. Chaos had no hold over him, meaning his atrocious actions were entirely of his own doing and his own free will, representing some of the worst that mankind had to offer.
