|~ Ghost of Merlin talking to Clarence.|
The Ghost of Merlin is the main antagonist of The Scooby-Doo Show episode, "Scared a Lot in Camelot".
He was voiced by late John Stephenson. But as his Clarence disguise he was voiced by Frank Welker.
Zarko is a magician that learned about a treasure worth millions in the Camelot Castle. So he invented the curse of Camelot and took the persona of the Ghost of Merlin. He also hired a henchman to dress up as the Black Knight, Merlin's minion. Merlin and the Black Knight kidnapped Shaggy's uncle Shagworthy who owned the castle, and locked him up in the dungeons.
In the beginning of the episode Zarko is performing on stage. Shaggy and Scooby volunteers to be part of one of his magic acts. They ruin it and Zarko gets very angry and the Scooby gang drives away to Shaggy's uncle Shagworthy. When they arrive they meet Clarence who claims to be the caretaker of the castle. He says that they must go away, but suddenly the Ghost of Merlin appears. Merlin summon his minion the Black Knight whom kidnaps Clarence and vanishes together with Merlin. The gang goes inside the castle and finds a secret room to hide from the Black Knight. In the room they see wax mannequins of King Arthur and the knights of the round table, from the mannequins ghosts appear and scares the gang. While Fred, Daphne and Velma runs away the Ghost of Merlin and the Black Knight appears and Merlin hypnotises Shaggy and Scooby. He orders them to kill Fred, Daphne and Velma and they obey. But Velma eventually wakes them from hypnosis by using a Scooby Snack on a string.
Later the gang finds uncle Shagworthy locked up and frees him. He is too scared to help them so the gang continue. Shaggy and Scooby gets chased by Merlin and the knight but manages to hide. The gang reunites and realizes that thr only place they've not been in is the tower. They shoot Shaggy up to the tower and he unlocks the door so they all can get in. They discover an electric organ which is the control panel for all holograms, projections and magic tricks that the Ghost of Merlin has used. Knowing that the whole curse of Camelot thing is a hoax the Scooby gang makes a plan to capture Merlin and the Black Knight. Daphne messes up the plan by getting one of her fingers stuck in the keys but they defeat the Ghost of Merlin and the Black Knight anyway. Merlin and the Knight are unmasked and first it's Clarence under the mask. But Clarence is also just a disguise and they finally reveal that Zarko the Magician is the real culprit. The police arrive and takes Zarko and his henchman into custody.
