| ~ Petrou |
Giannis Petrou (Greek: Γιάννη Πέτρου, Giánni Pétrou), also known as The Finder (Greek: Ο Ανιχνευτής, O Anichneftís) is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders episode “Pankration”. Perron is a Greek xenophobe who arranges fatal flights to kill international citizens in Athens, in the interest of attacking the man he hates the most.
He’s portrayed by Socrates Alafouzos.
Biography[]
Petrou, a part-time security guard at a shipyard and a nationalist, was inflamed by the 2015 European migrant crisis, enough to argue fences should be built around Greece to bar immigration. Turkish-Greek citizen Josef Gashi demanded an explanation from Petrou, so Petrou punched him. Gashi, in response, beat Petrou so badly, not only did he have lasting disabilities, needing to relearn movement, speech, and eating for months in physical rehab, but he nearly died and lost his job. As Petrou threw the first punch, Gashi was never charged, and Perron was not only furious by the sense of injustice, but by the embarrassment of being bested by a man who’s not a born and raised Greek citizen. In 2017, Petrou swore revenge and commandeered a cargo container at the dock where he used to work as a hideout, constructing electrified gates to prevent escape, then found a British Royal Marine with PTSD named Collin Marks, who retreated to Greece for therapy and a job. As Petrou was in know fighting condition to take on Gashi, having been reduced to a limp, seeing Collin as a great substitute in a fashion of poetic justice with Collin being a British citizen, Petrou dragged Collin to the container and tortured him into Stockholm Syndrome and eventual subjugation. Petrou brainwashed Collin into training for fighting Gashi, and in the meantime, Petrou sought other international citizens for Collin to brutalize to death as preparation. It was a perversion of pankration, a brutal blood sport with little to no rules or safety precautions for fighting.
Petrou fixed Collin to kill Paul Stavros, an American there for family business with his uncle Elias, and Besnik Heta, an Albanian man affiliated with local crime boss Nazmi Dushku. They were left in public places as a harassment against the international communities of Athens. Ruling out family disputes, organized crime, and wider spread ethnic community tensions, international agents swiftly realized two guilty parties were responsible. They figured Petrou was the “finder” and Collin was the “fighter”, but when Collin was identified was the latter, they realized he was just as much a victim due to his lack of a record or motive and unexplained disappearance. When Gashi was snatched from his car using a blunt weapon, the agents knew he was targeted, and police records leads them to identify Petrou as the killer based on motive. As Dushku works the shipyards, the agents gets the likely location where the cargo container would be located. While Gashi and Collin fight, Petrou gets an alert from security hardware that the agents are close by, causing him to flee the unit and confront the agents while Collin is with Gashi. He has a stand-off with Agent Jack Garrett, pulling a pistol and professing his hatred for immigrants in Greece he wants dead. In spite of Garrett’s warnings, Petrou nearly shoots Garret, who fires back and kills Petrou in a successful suicide by cop. Agent Matthew Simmons stops and subdues Collin, snapping him back to his senses by telling him he’s safe, Collin collapsing to his knees and weeping. Collin was presumably absolved of charges and arranged for psychiatric treatment.
