The Giant Owls are the overarching antagonists of the live-action series Knuckles, a Sonic Cinematic Universe spin-off.
Rather than being actual in-universe characters, they are fictionalized portrayals of the Giant Owl race, shown in Pachacamac's low-budget rock opera retelling of Knuckles' life.
One of the owls, Longclaw, was portrayed by Julian Barratt.
History[]
In Wade Whipple's fantasy, presented as a rock opera by Pachacamac, the Giant Owls attacked Knuckles and his father's home town to "kill everyone". They burned the town down and presumably killed off every echidna except Knuckles, including his father. Despaired, Knuckles was motivated by this tragedy to find the Flames of Disaster and tame their power.
Trivia[]
- The Giant Owls' role in the opera is widely inaccurate to the actual in-universe events. Back when Knuckles was a child, Longclaw was the last Giant Owl to begin with, and the Echidna Tribe attacked her and Sonic. Longclaw went down fighting, but killed off all the Echidnas except Knuckles in the process. This is likely due to Pachacamac being an unreliable narrator (and the actual overarching antagonist of TV series) deliberately whitewashing his clan's crimes.
