The Giant Spear Man is a large Pirate Goom and a major antagonist in Wario Land II. Throughout the events of the game, Captain Syrup deployed the Giant Spear Man to many locations in an effort to try to defeat Wario.

He serves as the secondary antagonist of nearly every Chapter (not counting the cutscenes and overall story), but is supposedly the main antagonist of the "Really Final Chapter", which is the true and final chapter of the game.

Biography[]

The Giant Spear Man had similar battle tactics to a regular Pirate Goom. He would slowly walk back and forth, attempting to stab Wario with his spear. The spear prevented the anti-hero from using any head-on attacks. Instead, Wario had to ground pound him from above. After ten hits, the Giant Spear Man would surrender, and Wario could continue his looting. Although the Giant Spear Man engaged Wario in many battles, the purple-clad thief always emerged the victor.

The Giant Spear Man was also trusted enough to guard the treasure of the Black Sugar Gang. After Captain Syrup was defeated at the end of the game, the Giant Spear Man tried to stop Wario from stealing Captain Syrup's treasure, but once again he lost to the powerful anti-hero and the treasure was stolen. The movie seen during the end credits show the Giant Spear Man following Wario to his castle. His motivation for doing so is unclear.

Trivia[]

  • In the Japanese release of Wario Land II, the "Defeat the Giant Spear Man" levels had different names, such as "Defeat the Dangerous Giant Spear Goom", "Defeat the More Dangerous Giant Spear Goom", "Defeat the Stray Spear Goom", "Defeat the Obtrusive Giant Spear Goom", "Defeat the Most Dangerous Giant Spear Goom", and finally, "Defeat the Outrageous Spear Goom". This was not in the English release however, with all of the levels being titled "Defeat the Giant Spear Man" most likely due to character limit.
  • Despite being the weakest "boss" in the game, the Giant Spear Man ironically serves as the true final boss of Wario Land II, acting as the last enemy fought in the "Really final" chapter instead of Captain Syrup.
  • Considering he is the final boss of the game and actively hunts down Wario in the final ending, it is possible that after Syrup's supposed defeat, he was put in charge of the Black Sugar Gang.
    • It is also possible that he is the second-in-command of the Black Sugar Gang, although it could also be Bobo or the Pirate Triad.
