Gigan Rex is the titular main antagonist of the 2022 short film Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex. He is an alteration of the kaiju Gigan and leads a group of alien cyborgs called the Gigan Miles.
Appearance[]
Gigan Rex is a large mechanical alien covered in armor, spikes, and a visor in place of an eye. He resembles the Gigan Miles, only with red armor instead of cyan, a purple visor instead of red, and a metallic eye on his chest in favor of buzzsaw-esc spikes. The eye is colored black with two pink circles as an iris.
Biography[]
Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex[]
A group of giant alien cyborgs called the Gigan Miles appear above Tokyo one day. Using their laser eyes and sharp claws, they destroy everything in their path, wiping out the armada of planes and tanks. Just as all hope seems lost, Godzilla appears and attacks the aliens. With his skin impenetrable to their claws and lasers, Godzilla effortlessly defeats the Gigan Miles.
Suddenly, a larger Gigan Miles appears, revealing himself as their leader, Gigan Rex. Using his claws which he extends as whips and a beam from his chest, Gigan Rex launches a full assault onto Godzilla. However, the king of the monsters remains completely durable and gains the upper hand. However, Gigan Rex activates a mind control program which summons a group of nine Gigan Miles. The Gigan Miles, on Gigan Rex's behalf, extend the buzzsaws from their stomachs and launch themselves at Godzilla, slicing into him at rapid speed.
The swarm quickly manages to overwhelm Godzilla, pinning him down as they hack into his back with their buzzsaws. Just then, Godzilla activated an atomic pulse, entering a powered-up state and allowing him to destroy the Gigan Miles. Once Godzilla turns towards Gigan Rex, the alien extracts the cores from the remaining six Gigan Miles. Combining the cores within his whips, Gigan Rex enters his own powered-up state and launches a massive beam from his chest, which Godzilla counters with his atomic breath. While Gigan Rex initially has the upper hand, Godzilla's breath slowly overtakes Gigan Rex before triggering a massive explosion, killing the alien tyrant.
Godzilla vs. Megalon (2023)[]
It's revealed that Gigan Rex's mangled remains have been taken away by Seatopians and his remaining energy reserve is siphoned into their guardian deity as part of preparation to invade the surface world.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Claw Whips: Gigan Rex can extend his claws into whips with sharp spikes akin to chainsaw teeth.
- Chest Beam: The eye in Gigan Rex's chest can fire a powerful beam. The beam can be empowered by absorbing the cores from Gigan Miles.
- Bladed Tail: Gigan Rex can use the blade on the end of his tail to slice his opponents or stabilize himself. Unlike the Gigan Miles, the blade can split in half.
- Mind-Control: By activating a small beacon on his forehead, Gigan Rex can directly control the Gigan Miles into following his direct orders.
- Flight: Gigan Rex can levitate and fly at Mach Speeds.
- Durability: Gigan Rex is far more durable than the Gigan Miles, such as being able to resist direct force from Godzilla's atomic breath.
